Two AFL footballers and one Rugby League player have been accused of violence in separate incidents over the weekend.
League star Craig Gower has again become embroiled in controversy after allegedly biting a man in a Sydney bar brawl.
The incident allegedly took place in the early hours of Sunday morning at the Peppermint Lounge in the inner-city suburb of Potts Point.
Gower, who plays in the NRL for the Penrith Panthers, allegedly fled the scene after coming to blows on the dance floor with a male patron after the rugby league star "tried to kiss him, then bit him on the neck," a witness told News Limited.
One witness claimed the former Australian halfback was "really drunk and all over the place".
Gower lost the captaincy at Penrith after he was accused of groping the daughter of league legend Wayne Pearce at a charity golf weekend during the 2005 off-season.
Meanwhile Carlton AFL footballers Lance Whitnall and Heath Scotland have reportedly been questioned by police over the assault of a woman outside a Ballarat hotel early on Sunday.
Neither police nor the Carlton Football Club would confirm the identities of the pair, but Whitnall and Scotland were named by Fairfax newspapers and the Nine Network on Sunday night.
Police spokeswoman Katherine Jess said a couple and another man had left a bar and were walking along Lydiard Street, Ballarat, about 5am (AEDT) on Sunday, Fairfax newspapers reported.
The woman in the group told police the trio was approached by a man, Ms Jess said.
"A verbal altercation between a female and a male has taken place and it is alleged the female was assaulted by the male," she said.
Detectives are investigating the alleged incident.
Carlton chief executive Michael Malouf said in a statement on Sunday that the club was disappointed and "will follow up the issue when we are fully informed".
