The fact of the matter is and I'm being completely serious here but circa 1999-2001 Adam Parore was the best keeper in the world. Ability with the bat not coming into it of course. Uneducated International Cricket followers flame away.

A young Mark Boucher was better.

I disagree, in the pure keeping aspect I believe Parore was the best at the time period. He actually retired at his peak, he was a great keeper at that stage thanks to Steve Rixon. And Rixon came out some years later and said that PAroroe was the best keeper in the world at that stage. Couldn't bat though so was never going to be recognised by many.

Well said Chip.

AB should be remembered as a leader not a captain. He did more than place fields.

Simmo is the one I feel gets forgotten about. Do the basics. Such a simple attitude.

You would hope not, though as the years go on, I fear Simmo will be forgotten.

Not many are revered by some of the greatest of all time than AB as a captain and player. The Windies had nothing but respect for Border, a feather in any one's cap back then.

And AB was all we had, probably the most underated Aussie player of all time. He carried an entire nation for 4 years alone. I wonder how Ponting would have went in his posistion????

History will record that Ponting captained a side similar to AB's for a period..

Pidgeon,Warnie,Gilly,Marto & Langer all retired within a year or so of each other..With 4 of those going in the 1 series..

In saying that AB was twice the captain that Ponting was IMO..

So I'm assuming between 1999-2001 you thought Gilchrist was the best keeper in the world? And we're talking just wicket keeping, not batting.
In those 2 years Gilly averaged around 60 odd with a sr in the 90's. He's probably won about 5 or 6 games of his own bat by then, His keeping only dropped after 05. And so did his batting. Before the 05 tour of England besides Bradman his record was up there with anyone who played the game.

I have no idea how those stas are relevant considering Im talking about wicket keeping not batting.

As I've said in this thread, I look at a keeper first and foremost on his glove work. Boucher stormed on to the scene as a keeper and was more than impressive keeping to Donald, De Villiers, Kluesener etc in those early teams he was in. I mean, he even kept to Paul Adams! (I am joking - for all his frog in a blender hoopla he was primarily a left arm china men bowling his wrong'un as his stock delivery).

I am not saying Parore was in any way poor as I agree, he left at his peak as a keeper. I do however believe Boucher was challenging Ian Healy early in his career and assumed the mantle in 99 when Healy left the game.

Ponting never had a side bad as AB has in 85-6, i mean we lost the big 3 and then Hughes. Throw in Alderman,Rackerman,Rixon,Smith etc etc and we were well and truly gutted. Only someone as strong as AB could have guided us through those dark times. Not bad for a guy who didn't want the job. Him and Simmo deserve most of the credit for those 15 years or so when we well and truly ruled the world. Waugh handed Ponting a Ferrari and Ponting gave Clarke the keys to a datsun 180b. Not all of it was his fault but he helped the slide IMO.

I'm talking about an all round keeper. Gilly those first few yrs didn't miss all that many and his SR was as good as anyone. And hi batting took the game to another level. If you want to fap on about a poor mans Darren Berry by all means do your worst.

I agree with you mate..

But the history books will be a lot kinder on Pontings captaincy than many think he deserves..

I never said Parore was the best all round keeper in the world, I said he was the best wicket keeper (batting not included) in the world at that time and you chose to respond to that with Gilchrist batting stats. So stfu.

People tend to gloss over Pontings captaincy because he was such a great bat. I remember the crap AB used to cop for years even though he took over one of the weakest sides ever. Ponting got a free ride with the press, i mean he lost 3 ashes series and never copped the flack AB did.

The history books say Ponting is the greatest captain ever unfortunately.

An entire generation of BunniesMan type mongs are on their way to tell us "how it was"

How many times did the Kiwi's beat the bat in thosr 2 years??? Edward Scissor hands could have kept for you blokes...........You can wank on about a poor mans Darren Berry and i'll remember Gilly a first choice player in the all time world XI.
