CHANNEL Nine's paid a reported $17 million to snatch Hamish Blake and Andy Lee from Channel Ten this year. Last night's Hamish & Andy's Gap Year, the first of ten shows they are producing for Nine, was their chance to deliver - and Nine's chance to break its comedy losing streak.
Gap Year was the duo's stab at a Tonight show. A very bad stab.

It really was radio with pictures - big on talk, short on laughs. The opening was painfully slow.
Thank heavens for a recorded segment on bare-handed fishing.
That was followed by a fun-but-shallow chat with music star Taylor Swift.
Another recorded segment - Blake and Lee falling asleep on a park bench, at a hot dog stand, in a cab - provided dumb laughs. After that, you could feel the wheels falling off with dodgy robots and tattoos.
When Hamish and Andy signed with Nine, the network was billing itself as "the home of comedy".
Things are different now that Ben Elton Live From Planet Earth, $#*! My Dad Says and Mike & Molly all crashed in the ratings.
If Hamish and Andy aren't careful, Gap Year could make it four for four.
