Have the Tigers convinced Moltzen to stay? Release sought from his Saints contract

Humphreys is on the NRL broadcasting committee (along with a handful of other CEO's) charged with obtaining the best possible deal out of the next TV rights contract. And may god help us all.

Well considering the dollars he has had invested in the Wests Tigers jersey which is reportedly the highest of any NRL club I am confident in his ability to negotiate a TV deal.

The simple fact of all of this is that Moltzen approached the club wanting to stay before the semi finals series. None of this was initiated by WT's management. Yes the entire non release for puzzling and just silly.

This hasn't been said anywhere.

Also, you know how much we're paying him?

Let's not forget what was said about Moltzen leaving on the same day in July:

Stephen Humphreys [WT Club Media Release]: "the announcement this afternoon has come as a complete surprise to us"

Tim Sheens [Post match interview]: "That's got nothing to do with it. The boys were well aware that Tim was moving on."

It was common knowledge that he wanted to stay within the club. He approached the club. This was known by players, friends and some assistant coaching staff for certain

I know he went for more money than he was on at WT and he was on more than his actual worth at WT so yeah overpriced.

Enjoy his services. I was glad he signed elsewhere and nothing has happened to change my opinion. He may go very well for you. He can be a decent foil when your team is on top.

How do you know this?

Just asking...

Sadly it is one of those cases where the only answer I can give is internal sources at WT.

I fully expect that to be dismissed by many as BS but these sources have only steered me wrong once and that was back in 2007

Ah, the ol' reliable unnamed source.

So no facts to back up your claims. OK...

Excuse me for dismissing it when it comes from someone who calls a first grade player an overpriced pile of crap. IMO, that type of bias immediately places a question mark over any subsequent view you may have on the player.

Hey believe what you like.

I am comfortable with the info I received but make your own mind up on the info available to you

I spoke to an un-named source at WT and he said Moltzen only wanted to stay at WT if they assured they would sack Lui and they at least matched the dragons offer. He wanted the 7 jersey & Sheens agreed.

Humphreys changed his mind 3 or 4 times, and Sheens wanted him back, but it would have cost another 1 maybe 2 players. Humphreys didn't want to go down the legal challenge avenue as he received legal advice they would have had no claim as he gave his manager permission (to look elsewhere) & a verbal assurance Moltzen would be released.

Aparently keeping Moltzen was way to much of a financial risk for the WT.

Well don't take it personally. The fact is that these 'reliable sources' are sometimes wrong, and therefore not reliable.

Its the internet. No normal person takes anything personally.

Hopefully 2012 rolls around quickly after the 4N though

As a WestsTigers supporter I can beleive this,I am 50/50 on Moltzen,he showed nothing until the last 3 weeks, not sure he was putting in before that, but he finished strong.
He should go to Saints as that is where he signed,Sheens is a goose sometimes, the way he uses his players,Moltzen might excel at Saints if left in one position, whatever position that is.
He is an Australian schoolboy 5/8th,who played fullback,centre,5/8th and half for us,so who knows which position he will play at saints.

Humphreys probably got legal advice to the effect that he is stuffed.
Yep, official release or not, give a manager permission to look elsewhere (and confirm it in the press), have him sign elsewhere whilst your coaching staff confirm they knew of the move, then revoke it 3 months later and you open yourself up to a whole lot of litigation when verbal agreements are commonplace in the industry.

The tigers probably would have won if they contested it, but it would have cost them a bit to get that victory.

Completely amateur and petulant move from Humphries.

Nice try idiot

Sheens showed his hand numerous times this year when Lui and Marshall were out. Jacob miller played in the halves and moltzen fullback or bench. He has stated plenty of times that moltzen is a fullback and moltzen has said that's where he wants to play.

We have also recently resigned 20s 5/8 Curtis Sironen for 3 years.

Even if Lui goes and moltzen stays moltzen will be in the 1
