I just cant understand why anyone would think NFL teams would spend a million dollars on a "gimmick" signing of a bloke absolutely no one in their country has heard of.

I mean, signing Jarryd Hayne would create next to no publicity what so ever, it might get a bit of air time on the local radio the same way it does when they promote a guy from the practice squad, but this isnt going to move the needle at all in 'Merica

Magpie has lost his god damn mind.

It's most likely that Hayne has secured a spot on a practice squad. I doubt any team would just chuck him straight onto the 53 man roster

I doubt he has secured himself a spot, he's not even worked out for any teams that we know of

My bet would be he's sent out tapes to all the NFL teams of his highlights, he's enrolled in one of those pre drafting training style programes and they'll work with him for a few months, get him into some kind of shape for NFL, then he'll have some try outs line up for NFL teams

if they like him, they MIGHT sign him as a PS member.

The NRL will now have to change their MCG origin ad to remove hayne.

Can't really blame the NRL for some of these players leaving, both hayne and burgess were under contract, souths did the game no favours selling burgess to bath.

No. They arent'

How would signing some bloke no one in america has ever f**king heard of count as a gimmick? How would that help them?

And no, i dont think Hayne will be door knocking, i think he will get himself in to a program of some sort and maybe train with a team, try and make it via the practice squad or via the draft if he's eligible to apply for draft consideration, or maybe he has a try out with some teams already line up, but he's not signing there as f**king gimmick. Honestly. there isnt a f**king team in the NFL who would gain anything from signing Hayne as a gimmick

I agree but do you honestly believe he doing this on a whim and intends to doorknock NFL clubs?

He should probably doorkock clubs 10 levels below the NFL clubs and he might get a trial.

None of this makes sense (prime of his league career, no NFL contract, no supposed NFL contacts, no Green Card (??)), unless the guy has had a breakdown.

If he's not going to be a kicker/punter then that is very different. The learning curve for ball playing positions is huge. I would be impressed if he makes it. If he does and he succeeds you can bet NFL teams will start looking at the NRL as a feeder league.

So much fail in this I can't even

The big question: HAS HE GOT A GREEN CARD?

He could be an illegal.

You would think that this sort of stuff has been sorted out already.

Dude .He is already well off financially ,he can go to the states ,he will live very comfortably for a couple of years chasing his dream in the hope of cracking the NFL .Success or failure he will return to Aus a millionaire with property in Sydney ,and will easily pickup another multi million $ deal either in the NRL or Rugby. It's not as he is risking it all and if it doesn't work out he will have to dig holes for the council! he's hardly putting all his balls on the line here.Worst case scenario it's a double gap year.If it is his dream he'd be crazy not to go for it when you think about it.

He isn't Bill Gates.

To lose a million or so, when you have a very finite earning capacity, is a big deal.

To me it shows that it is something he strongly wants to do.

Tim Tebow isn't a Canadian player, he's a yank who got cut by 3 different teams despite being a college phenom, and a world wide celebrity especially in the Christian community

Never heard of the dude, but obviously plays in Canada.

Hey, are you saying I'm unChristain.

Canard, that is what I meant. You need guaranteed employment to receive a green card or win one in the annual lottery.

The doorknocking is absolute bullshit.

According to him, he has got a thing lined up
I think he's probably got a plan in place where he'll train under a specific program and when in NFL shape he's got some offers to try out for some NFL teams. I dont think any NFL team has guaranteed him anything. And i am certain NO nfl team is going to sign this guy for publicity because it just wont generate any. A RL player trying out for the NFL is national news here... it's not even a blimp on the radar over there.

I think mostly he's chasing a dream. He's got some plans, some contacts he's made have offered to give him a shot to try out when he's ready and that's it

The NRL should get together with foxsports to pitch a reality TV show based in the us where they do a player combine targeting former college footballers to play league, there are thousands of them with the physical attributes that would suit rugby league.

Good post, but a minus million dollar dream at that. As said, good luck to him but it is bloody weird.

Hayne has almost 0% of making it.
NFL teams simply don't like 27 year old project players.
If he wanted to go into the NFL he needed to make the decision many years, go to college for a few years, learn the game and hope he has the skills to make it in the pros.
He left it too late.
I just can't see any NFL teams taking the risk.
Especially when there will 200 more skilled, more knowledgable, 21 year olds waiting to be drafted next April.

It is okay to have dreams and try to fulfil them but there comes a point when you have to realise a dream may just be that.

It's what the NRL need to do to grow the competitions profile internationally, the game has the ability to be attract a niche following internationally just like the NFL does here, so maybe one day instead of an NRL player leaving to play NFL it's an NFL player wanting to play in the NRL. It's pie in the sky stuff now but you have to start somewhere.

For sure.

There must be some ability to do it however, he isn't the first non-citizen to try this sort of thing.

Some pacific islanders have an ability to get foreign passports that Australians don't have, not sure Fiji is in this boat however.

I mean surely his management hasn't forgotten about this issue.
