Only mental midgets think him succeeding is good for the NRL. If he does well then they start sending scouts over here which will weaken the talent depth we have.

If you're an NRL accountant it may be good in the future by growing niche interest in the US. But if you're an NRL fan it is not good. The NRL making more money does nothing for us. The NRL losing talent does hurt us.

If you think Hayne is a "normal" NRL athlete then guess again.

And if the NFL were so inclined they'd have their scouts looking anyway. They are aware that there is a country called Australia and they are also aware of the sports we play. Ever seen entire AFL or NRL teams go over there in the offseason for training stints? Or NRL coaches?

Its not like they will now go "Oh f*ck me!! What's this NRL thing??"

Good luck to him.

Only 1.7% of college players get picked up by the NFL. You really think given they pass on 98.3% (67,000 players) of talent that actually have played the game since 5 years old that they are going to pay much attention to RL?

No they aren't.

People making 1/2/3/4 million a year just to kick a ball with no running or contact are geniuses. If Hayne could do that he could extend his career by a decade compared to being a ball player.

NFL punters are the real geniuses of professional sport.

Nobody has ever accused Hayne of being a genius.

He has less chance of getting a $4M being a punter, than actually making the NFL.

The cynic in me thinks this is a very smart move by hayne to get out of his contract and come back on a lot more money. It's hard to believe that he is walking out on a $1mill contract on a massive outside chance at picking up an NRL,contract without a pretty sure return on more money. He can basically name his price back in the NRL,in 2016/17 when he returns.

Wow.
Well, I support him and I trust that he probably has something fairly strong in place to do this.
I'd say he spoke to a few scouts, maybe coaches and players.

Everyone thinks he's playing something on attack, I've always thought Hayne would be a very good safety.
I would expect that if (and that's a big one) he makes it, it'll be as a safety/kick returner.
He isn't explosively fast but it isn't actually what all of the kick returners are, you also have to be elusive and he's got that in spades.

Better take a good gander at that trophey NSW fans, because it's coming back to Queensland next year and until further notice.

I wonder how much Parra going FIVE years without finals footy affected him. If they were a regular contender maybe he'd be more interested in staying.

He'll get 1.5 mill from Parra and Dave Smith's much talked about discretion will see him probably throw in another 500k. Our first 2 million a year player.

How weak as piss is Parramatta

He walks out from a contract and we get nothing

At least when sbw and burgess left the club got compensated

Why not just say `go play nfl' but you need to buy out your contract at $1m for next year

Bad for parra and the NRL. A successful eels would put them in the top 4 supported/hyped clubs in Sydney and the game needs strong clubs. Not sure where they go now for a star player to be their high profile player every club needs?

Tbf he is off to train in LA for 4 months then try and get some trials in the NFL off season. He's got loads of cash in bank and will walk back into NRL on more money in march if he fails to get a roster spot so sounds like a pretty good lifestyle choice with little risk really.

i think the point is though that if he is serious then he will have to put in more than just 4 months before giving it away

Everyone seems to be bagging him but he would be a very good kick returner and if he wants to have a crack good on him. I'm sure he's got enough money, worst comes to worst he might have to get a real job one day but why not follow your dreams?

Try playing a two minute drill being a WR running 60 yards at full pace then getting back into position to do it again, digest the play called, all within 30 seconds. A bit tougher than you think!

Mate I do 30 x 100m (110 yards) hill sprints on a 60 second loop weekly, and I am just some plodder amateur runner.

Any professional league player who couldn't complete, say, 6 x 60 yard/55m sprints on a 30 second loop (completing more than 6 downs in a game of NFL without a timeout, TV timeout, or review would almost never happen) is kidding themselves fitness wise.

hayne would be able to complete that drill without a problem. whether or not he could get open would be the key
