All these NFL fans saying he has to learn how to play the game, has to learn the plays etc - how do you experts know that he doesn't know the game? Maybe he's as big an expert as you guys. Or maybe, incredulous as it sounds, he knows more about the game than you do.

No mate.

They once watched 20 mins of a game on ESPN.

I love the arrogance of these guys thinking they are the only people on this forum who watch NFL.

The comparisons are ridiculous also. It's like saying if your not as good as Thurston then you will be a failure in League.

I follow him social media and I know he follows the game, he's always posting NFL related stuff but watching the game is completely different to playing it at a high level. I've been watching NFL religiously now for 3 years after playing it on madden since about 2007, I watch more NFL than I do rugby league and what I do understand is how intricate it is, if you ask me to dissect a play book, read a defence, etc I'd have no idea because I haven't played the game. I have no doubt Jarryd would know a lot about the game but that means bugger all

he would have to get the laziness out of his game.

Even if he returned every punt and played the occasional down as a tail back or running back, he'd be in motion for about 1 minute, maybe two per game.

That gives him plenty more opportunity to add loads of lazy to his game and still f**king kill it

I hate it when users on this forum try and show off their NFL knowledge.

Why, because you think you know more, or because you don't understand what they're saying or because you believe no other sport should be mentioned here?

I know people that watch as much if not more NFL than NRL - it doesn't mean they don't know anything about NRL or NFL. It just means they enjoy both and enjoy talking about both.

Whats the big deal?

that's the thing, ive watched this thing for at least 7 years, and full on, havent missed an eagles game in that time, rewatch 3-4 games a week on game pass, often watch games on the all-22 film. I get up every week at 3am-4am to watch red zone live

then i go somewhere like grantland, and they do those articles with embedded youtube clips and gifs about line play and all this really technical stuff and it mostly goes over my head

I know absolutely f**k all about the game in the grand scheme of things. It's a very complicated game

No because they ignorantly think that because its a League forum, then nobody on here watches or knows about American Football.

Its worse than Union snobbery.

American Football has been shown on Australian Televisions since the late 80s, I was buying things like the Sporting News, Team by Team reviews and mock draft booklets since I was about 13.

Mate, unless you play that sport at a professional level, it is extremely difficult to learn as a spectator. Especially in the positions he'll be looking at LB, WR or CB. It can take an established WR over a year to adapt to a new team with the variations on routes, let alone someone who hasn't played the sport.

NFL is one of the most nuanced, intricate sports there is, 'talent' is a mere fraction of it. League encourages individuality, and enterprising play. NFL players are puppets of the coach and QB, if you take that route one foot too late or early, quite often the play is done. It's extremely different in its application.

No one is an expert, unless they play it day in, day out for years on end.

It's a tall order for someone who will be slowing down in 2-3 years time to justify a spot on a roster over some new blood college player who has played the game all his life. Not to mention there is no marketing angle on it, as most americans couldn't care less about any other sport than football.

I'd back an elite sportsman's knowledge over blokes like you who think you know how he's going to go based on watching a few games of NFL.

Now tell me numpty, when he went over to the sea hawks recently did his knowledge improve or was he f**king blindfolded, had cotton balls stuck in his ears and sedated?

I understand this and agree. But the way a few blokes on here go on its as if they invented the game of NFL. I  at the blokes who have watched it for '3 years' and '7 years'. That's a loooooooong time fellas.

I'm no expert and no hater of the game but I've been watching it over 20 years. Look how long my eDick is.

When I first started watching NFL Joe Montana was QB for the Niners, Brett Farve had never thrown a football professionally and Marcus Allen was in his second season with the Raiders

But having watched for 30 years, I've still no f**king idea if Hayne can make it. I just wish him the best.

Jesus wept.
No one here is claiming to be an expert on the game, we are just speaking about what little we do know about, in fact most of us concede, for all we like about the game and enjoy it we dont really know that much at all, it's just a very nuanced game, and probably one you cant really be an expert on unless you've played it at a reasonable high level, as i said, 7 years of avid watch and - "i know absolutely f**k all about the game in the grand scheme of things. It's a very complicated game"

I had to laugh at some of the posters here suggesting that physically Hayne doesn't have it to make it in the NFL. If he was from soccer or AFL I could understand but as witnessed in the recent Grand Final Rugby League is possibly the most brutal code of football on the planet and Hayne has played State of Origin and test matches ffs.

Where I do agree is that technically he will struggle. Watching a game of any code on TV and actually playing is 2 very different things.

Also I don't believe that Hayne is going cap in hand to the NFL to try his luck. It now sounds like too much of a coincidence that he happened to go to the Seattle Seahawks a few weeks after the rest of his team. After all doing a bit of performance testing on Hayne without testing all the other players would have looked a touch odd?

Good luck to him for having a go, physically he should be ok but picking up a new game in 12 months may be a bit of a stretch.

NRL is a contact sport, NFL is more of a collision sport. I have no doubt that Hayne will be tough enough, but the physical strain does differ between the two games.
