In fact, this sh*t pisses me off so much I went and had a look at what the commercial stations are playing compared to Triple J:
Nova -
http://www.nova969.com.au/music/MUS_nova_playlist.aspx - this playlist is awful - nothing even close to Triple J.
Triple M - don't have a playlist, however they are pushing concerts by Coldplay and Bernard Fanning. Now whilst Triple J do play these artists, it is pretty well known that they play more Cold Chisel and Bon Jovi than anything else. So whilst you can compare Triple M to Triple J - wouldn't you say that Triple M has changed to be closer to Triple J (Coldplay and Powderfinger were played by Triple J well before Triple M jumped on the bandwagon...)
2Day FM - don't have a playlist, but given they are pushing concerts by Backstreet Boys, Rob Thomas and Kylie Minogue, it's fair to say that Triple J is nothing like this station...
Triple J - Here is the current hitlist:
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/music/hitlist_artist.htm
The Arctic Monkeys - I Bet You Look Good...
Youth Group - Forever Young
Love Outside Andromeda - Bound By Hurt Dissolved
Mattafix - Big City Life
London Elektricity - The Strangest Secret...
Coldcut - Everything Is Under...
Cat Power - The Greatest
Bertie Blackman - Television
Datarock - Fa-Fa-Fa
Pharrell Williams - Can I Have It Like That
The Morning After Girls - Shadows Evolve
The Strokes - Juicebox
The Golden Age - Dirty Bird
Wolf Parade - Grounds For Divorce
Infadels - Jagger 67
No doubt the other stations are playing The Strokes - I mean thats a guaranteed hit. They will be playing Arctic Monkeys soon - they are gonna be huge. Youth Group will be on soon, as they will play whatever is played on The OC the week after it's been on. Can't imagine much of The Morning After Girl's will be played...
People who call Triple J commercial are just talking out of their arse and have no tolerance for music they don't like being played. They also have no idea how many genre's and how big an area the station has to cover.
