Chad would have been a very handy back up. We are in trouble if Murphy cant handle the step up.

I don't know why people are so critical of Barba before he has even played a full game.

He showed enough in the Manly and Tigers trial that he will be at minimum a decent 5/8. With more time with the team, I think he can have a great year.

At the Broncos he was continually shifted between Fullback and 5/8th, he was heavier, and he just wasn't happy. In the off season, he has slimmed down, and has been committed to as the 5/8th. Let's not forget that Thurston gave him rave reviews in the All Star game.

Robson will be Robson. Not great, not bad. Just average. Clearly it is his last year at the club. 2015 is a year for improvement, and I think the club is ultimately working at 2016 to be the year where they genuinely contest for the premiership - one reason we are going hard after DCE.

Murphy could be good. But he is still young and new to the club, as well as being new to Sydney. Hopefully he develops, and gains some confidence.

He was hardly chopped and changed at the Broncs. He played a lot of fullback and then switched to 5/8 towards the end.

All of the things you mention point to potential. I hope you are right and he becomes the next superstar 5/8. The reality of his ability has to be taken from his time as a first grade 5/8 where his showing was average at best.

During training sessions, they would float him between Fullback and 5/8th. Not to mention its not an easy position to just be thrown in there midway through the season. And to be honest, I thought he finished the year better than how he started anyway.

The reality is that you can NEVER judge based on what happened at other clubs. Different culture, playing style, expectations, etc. It's one reason why players like Vagana, etc have been so disappointing at the club.

I'm not getting ahead of myself. He is not going to be the perfect 5/8th, and I don't think anyone should expect that.

I don't really care if we have a superstar 6 or 7. All I want is someone who can kick and pass both ways quickly. And another who can run if needed or pass both ways quickly.

We need to utilise out strengths on the edges and involve the centres with earlier cleaner ball.

Forwards playing with power and speed is enough to get this roll on.

haha well, a step up from carney being injured...but a step down from carney on the field...

i just don't see superstar written on barba any more, not from his manly trial or the all-stars or any of appearances for brisbane last year that i got forced to watch by channel nine every f**kin friday night. god i hope he proves me wrong though.

Has anyone stopped to think that Barba was always a 5/8 growing up, was the most dominant 5/8 in the TC, his kicking game was exceptional in it, and he was only made a fullback by the Dogs so they could accommodate Josh Reynolds.

He will be fine at 5/8.

all i've stopped to think about is that i hope he can reproduce the form of his youth in the NRL one day, and hopefully with us

Got the luxury of seeing how the year pans out I guess. Toops Lewis gal and heighno could all retire or move on, I'd keep Toops and Gal on smaller contracts, let the others go, and try for a Bukuya, Tupou, Taumololo, Graham, Peachey back row rotation with Gal as a prop...jesua

Just extended with the Panthers. Still don't know why everyone thought he would just come back after two years.

Because, he has been telling his mates he wants to play for Cronulla. The Catch 22 is , if he plays well for the Panthers he will be too expensive for us. If he doesn't play well, why would we want him? In his short run at the Panthers before injury , he produced some great highlights. Everyone raves about Jack Bird but Peach surpassed him in the 20s. My mail is Bird will start in reserve grade in the centres.
