^ hard.
NZ is packed with foreigners atm, all here to enjoy the RWC festivities. A large amount of them are mostly here for the tourist side of things and the party atmosphere - not necessarily die hard union fans.
Due to word of mouth, media, or simply following the crowds around, a HEAP of them will end up watching the NRL grand final, without previously having even heard of rugby league.
Assuming most of them have half a brain, they will go home thinking "wow this new sport, rugby league - it's like rugby but way faster and more intense" and will go home and tell people about it.
Fantastic exposure, and definitely the perfect time for the Warriors to make the grand final - in the midst of countless union borefests and 50 point thrashings of minnows.
I don't know about that. Just look how Channel Nine use rugby league as a springboard for their union coverage...
Do you seriously think that will happen? I mean, seriously?
Anyway, the kiwis (RU and RL fans alike) are super stoked that the Warriors are in the grand final. I haven't met a kiwi who hates rugby league yet so no doubt they'll be over the moon if their team wins. Even the All Blacks watched the Warriors match in the dressing room afterwards.
As for the 'Fan Zone' not showing the NRL Grand Final...well can you imagine if the reverse had happened over here in Australia? It wouldn't happen would it? Would the NRL allow an ARU match to be broadcast at a 'fan zone' they'd set up?

It's not that hilarious a concept. I'm not meaning on a mass scale obviously, but I've personally introduced a number of foreigners to NRL and they loved it and thought it was more exciting than union.
There's quite a few at PR and the Roar with their nose out of joint
AT PR?
Where? There is even a match thread on the first page? I haven't seen anything but happy posts regarding the Warriors making the final.
Of course there are the 3-4 posters who will pipe up with their usual dribble but generally the kiwi RU fans who post on there are behind the Warriors.
Probably, but I'd imagine that can be a bit deceptive. How many people wear fitted NFL caps without giving a shit about the NFL?
Regardless, that's not an indication of popularity of progress.
The Superbowl still only gets 15 million viewers outside of America and Canada so it can't be that popular. Even more so if it's got the best tv coverage in the world, you'd expect more than 15 mil globally
I watch the superbowl every year for the hell of it but I would never, ever watch a game of it otherwise. Me being exposed to that one game every year isn't going to hook me into the sport as I haven't grown up with it.
Couldn't imagine Rugby League doing anything like that to Union.Yes. One or two advertisement.s
Then they show the game (note the lack of plural here) on delay. Go Ch. 9!!
But if the RLWC was on and there was a 'fan zone' in Sydney, do you think they'd show a RU match on the big screen?
No. They wouldn't, would they?
Still, the Warriors are getting massive exposure right now in the NZ media. Good on them. This is a tough GF for me. I hate Manly and I hate NZ. Ffffffuuuuuuuuu!
