It also makes a mockery of the entire competition. There’s major implications here for the NRL. If it is allowed to happen then obviously clubs will have more reason to fiddle with ‘salaries’ and ‘contracts’ and, very quickly, there will be a handful of stacked sides and a bunch of non-competitive sides. Clubs will basically buy premierships. This is all contrary to the expansion plans of the NRL and the basis of the salary cap system.
This is a BIG scenario. If the NRL and auditors sit on their hands I will be amazed. If they let this go through to the keeper it will be reasonable to say the game has been destroyed; it’s just not rugby league.

An emphatic agreement from me to what you say Mojo. The NRL just cannot allow this to happen and must intervene with the strongest possible investigation and appropriate punishment imposed on all parties including Hunt, his manager and the Broncos (if this is the club he ends up with). Giving in to Hunt and allowing him to break his two and a half year contract with the Dragons and go and help out the Broncos by playing in the #9 to win the premiership this year would set a dangerous precedent.

I am completely lost for words on this whole affair. Hunt's bullshit excuse to leave the Dragons for family reasons is the last straw excuse he could drum up seeing that his earlier excuses did not have as much weight to break his contract.

I don't want him as a player at our club and his captaincy swiftly and unmercifully taken away from him. Let him sit out the remaining time of this years competition all the way to the grand final then let him piss off but whichever club signs him to pay a hefty amount of compensation.

There's 2 questions that I'm raising about Mr Hunt and I'm sure every supporter/contributor on here has mulled these over these past few days

1. Didnt Hunt make a statement during his support for Griffin when he was getting the sack that at his age he didn't want to start all over again..... and yet if reports are correct and he's going to The Titans under Hasler for 2 years and to a lesser degree to the Donkeys for a short time now unless I'm stupid isnt that starting all over again.

2.And once again if reports are correct and you will be going to play for Brisbane for the remainder of 2023 and by all accounts no club or
Its officials had or was allowed to approach you or your manager why ? did you want an immediate release......if none of this transpired wouldnt it be reasonable to assume then that you would have completed at least this year before you left even if it was only to support your team mates

You see Ben I can see through you like perspex....and in years to come when you mature a little and look back you will understand why some of us were a little pissed off .

They are just going to cut him loose and say "thanks for all you have done while at the club and good luck with your desire to win a premiership. Hunt is 100% gone. It’s now about planning for the future and using his salary wisely to reinvest in the squad. There is going to be reasonable funds available for flanno here. No Hunt, Kerr, Mbye, Woods there has to be at least $1.5M there and also whispers SLomax unsettled.. there is another $700k if you want to roll the dice.. so at least $2.2M to remodel an average squad..Personally I would throw out Bird, Burns, Musgrove, BMM and Ravalawa as well. Big changes needed for a tilt in 2025

I think all the announcements about Hunt are just speculation at best. St George have said nothing yet and we havent even had the meeting with him. I really think we all need to stop getting so upset and wait and see. This is just the press stirring up rubbish since no one knows anything really. The ball is entirely in our court- if we say no you’re not going then thats it- he goes nowhere. I know its hard to be objective but i think things will turn out ok. For once we have the say here. Lets hope the board is smart enough to do the best for us and us only. I dont want an ounce of benefit to go to any other team except us. That is the one aspect that truly annoys me - that many of journalists and hosts on the tele shows , knew what was going on behind the scenes , yet they continued to throw the dirt at the Dragons club as if it was their fault .

Quite simply they knew that other clubs were actively engaging with Hunt’s agent in an attempt to secure his services .

To my way of thinking the NRL has moved too late on this and it would appear that they - St.George Illawarra have finally had a gut full of the Hunt saga and wish to have end as quickly as possible .

Sad if true , as the man was the Dragons caption and as many have said already it’s a huge kick in the guts for his teammates .

Imo he distant himself for a lot of the action against the Warriors....he rarely did anything to get fully involved in the game.....in particular my focus was on him for the 80mins and believe me he did bugger all....makes you wonder was he protecting himself from the possibility of getting injured because he was going to play up North this year....just sayin

If this club has any moral fibre the only outcome should be yes let Hunt go as tbh we don't want him here anymore BUT under no circumstances should he be allowed to play for another NRL club this season......then worry about negotiating with The Titans at a later stage

If they release him immediately to finish this season with Broncos, we have no rights to ask for any compensation, players or transfer fee from the Titans for the next 2 years if he signs there. He will be a free agent for 2024 - 25.
Can't let that happen. Either refuse the release and let him move back to Queensland but not playing for any other club. Only going to cost us the last quarter of his yearly contract. Then if he wants to sign with Titans or anyone else for the next 2 years, we can agree to release him for a player swap and/or transfer fee.
