I love the fact that NSW fans pin their hopes on Lockyer's absence.

No, they shouldnt

What is it about the word "Origin" that you fail to comprehend

It's where they played their original game of senior Football. Besides the word Origin has transcended its meaning.

It would also be beneficial to England in particualr and the Kiwis to an extent.

Lockey being gone is only going to make it tougher for NSW. QLD have plenty of options. I'd be particularly scared of Cronk at half and Thurston at 5/8

As for the debate on bringing Poms n Kiwis into Origin ... thats a straight f**k no

I see Cherry-Evans as the next QLD 7,with Cronk continuing as a strike weapon off the bench.

Cherry-Evans has what it takes to lift for big games, look at what the lad has achieved in his first year in the NRL.He is only going to develop more and more. His potential is mind boggling.

Cronk is what NSW wishes Kurt Gidley could be,coming off the bench.Superlative, whether playing at substitute hooker,half-back or five-eight.He is also an excellent strategist and renowned as a settling influence in tight periods of the game.Whether he is subbing for Thurston,Cherry-Evans or Smith, the resultant combination would still be devastatingly potent and especially, smart.

Agreed ........and if either gets injured. I'd be shit scared of DCE as well

Lockyer leaving has opened a door......

as great as he was

it wasn't a bad thing.

As for the debate on bringing Poms n Kiwis into Origin ... thats a straight f**k no

Again agreed......it's QLD v NSW

that's it

No way should NSW be allowed to try and bring in their "ring - in's" ..........

edit: Even if they have lost the series for

how many years in a row?

.........I forget

Whether this should happen in 2012 ......has to depend on DCE's form.

If he is screaming out for selection then I'd have no problem with it.

I think it would suit the team the best with Cronk as an impact player/versatile replacement and DCE at 7 in the long run anyway.

Cronk is the obvious replacement. I can't believe DCE is even being discussed for next year.

From the NRL website:

"JT at No.6It’s been eight years since anyone other than Darren Lockyer filled the No.6 jersey for Queensland and Australia – but that’s about to change following Locky’s retirement. Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston has called ‘dibs’ on the coveted representative five-eighth role and is set to join the likes of Lockyer and Wally Lewis as superstars in the No.6, kicking things off at pivot for the Indigenous All Stars in February. There’s the likelihood Thurston will shift one player out for the Cowboys too, adding a new dimension to the North Queensland attack. Meanwhile they’re queuing up for the now-vacant Maroons’ No.7, with Cooper Cronk, Daly Cherry-Evans and Chris Sandow the frontrunners. We’ll tip new Kangaroo Cherry-Evans to make the jersey his own."

This is a guy who was being tipped by QLD team selectors to be State Of Origin material before he had even played one game for the NRL.

He is one of those rare half-backs who come along every few years or so.This lad has greatness stamped all over his game.He has the same freakish kind of talent that Slater and Thurston have, yet he has only just completed his first year in the NRL.You have to take into account his record in the QLD Cup.He was the half-back in the winning QLD cup team of 2009.He has been the half-back for the Manly Sea Eagles in their premiership winning year of 2011.The kid knows how to win the crucial games, playing in one of THE most crucial positions on the field. He knows how to win the type of games where both sides are giving it everything they have got.The types of games where it all comes down to that one game.

We know that Cronk is indeed worthy of the number 7 jersey.Very, very, very worthy indeed.Cronk is guaranteed a start in Origin every year.Guaranteed.His contribution off the bench as a strike-weapon is unmatchable by any other player that QLD could name.QLD are so lucky to have a player of his ability that they could inject into the game at any point, who can have the impact that Cronk brings. He is a game-winner that we can inject at any time. That is how he can be best utilised.

It is not that he is being left-out of the run-on side,it is the fact that Cronk running onto the field fresh at the crucial stages provides QLD with a mighty strike weapon. It actually maximises his potential impact on the Game.Cherry-Evans provides QLD with a potent half-back.Cronk provides QLD with a utility player/strike weapon who has no equal.

Uh I'm pretty sure there was plenty of criticism of Cronk's role off the bench this year and his being a wasted bench spot, particularly north of the border. But please keep reading from Mal's book of gospel.

Where is the proof that DCE was widely tipped to go well? Sure he was picked in the emerging QLD squad but so have the majority of QLD players...not to mention that Sandow and Lui have also been in that.

DCE was not the premiership winning halfback of that QLD Cup winning side in 2009, that was actually Hodkinson. He did get player of the year in 2010 but I don't know how impressive this is considering Hodkinson got the same award the year before.

As for DCE's importance in the big games, his NYC team ran away with the minor premiership in 2009 but then got eliminated in straight sets. This was also at a time he was playing alongside Foran and other future FGers? In the 2011 GF he had more talented and/or experienced players in Foran, Stewart x2, Lyon, etc helping him. So how important was he really?

Cronk is the obvious replacement. He's been playing as well as he ever has, been groomed for this position for the past couple of years, he already has a combination with Smith and Slater at club level, I think he has played with Thurston for Australia, he plays primarily on the right side (same as Lockyer). Why should a rookie that had a decent season be picked ahead?

I would also add that putting Cronk on for one of the 6,7,9 is pointless in any circumstance other than injury.

That sounds like a pretty good reason.

QUEENSLAND halfback Johnathan Thurston has anointed Manly's NRL rookie of the year Daly Cherry-Evans as his long-term successor with the Maroons. Cherry-Evans has enjoyed a stunning debut season, helping the Sea Eagles to a third grand final in five years and forming an outstanding halves partnership with fellow young gun Kieran Foran.
The 22-year-old from Mackay has played every game this season and his display in Manly's 42-8 win over North Queensland in the opening week of the finals left an impression on Thurston.
"I was impressed with the way Daly controlled the game against us, his kicking game and the way he gets the ball around the park is excellent," Thurston said.
"Me and Coop (Cooper Cronk) have only got a few years left in us, but no doubt Daly won't be far off Queensland selection if his footy keeps going the way it is.

"He has a massive future ahead of him."

Or this:

IF IT had not come from the mouth of Darren Lockyer, you would think it a fantasy. The thought of Lockyer paired in the halves with Manly youngster Daly Cherry-Evans for the Broncos, Queensland and Australia great's last international series is the stuff of dreams.
Yet it would not surprise Lockyer if the Sea Eagles' grand final halfback is picked in the Australian squad for the Four Nations tournament in Britain next month.
The Australian Rugby League will announce its 24-man squad on Monday, with Johnathan Thurston and Cooper Cronk tipped to be the only specialist halfbacks.
But Cherry-Evans's poise and class in earning his NRL rookie-of-the-year award could see him rewarded.
Australia coach Tim Sheens said this week that the former Sunshine Coast star was under selection consideration amid concerns over Thurston's recovery from a knee injury.

"There are two other halves, but the year he's had it wouldn't surprise me if he's put in the squad for experience," Lockyer told

It would seem to me that if the Aussie captain Lockyer tipped him to be chosen for the Kangaroos, then he would have no problem seeing him their in the Maroon 7 jersey.Sheens was basically saying that if Thurston isn't fit Evans might be the Aussie half-back.

But what would Thurston,Lockyer and Sheens know......

So Thurston said that DCE could be there after he and Cronk move on and Lockyer says he wouldn't be surprised if DCE was in the Kangaroos squad?

So what, there's token selections every year and DCE was always going to be a chance with his club winning the premiership and England watching his progress very closely.

What does all this have to do with DCE playing halfback and Cronk warming the bench next series for QLD?
