Is Price looking better

Is Price looking better this season?

Yes - compared to the dross that he was responsible for last year.

Should he be resigned for next season?

No - not unless we make the second week of the finals which for me is the minimum level the Saint George team should reach.

If this is the standard all coaches have to reach to be retained we could go through a few in a ten year period.

I doubt I was advocating that.

No i wasnt thinking you were pushing my scenario ,what you say is correct, in this day and age to attain a finals finish is an achievement to do it consistently an even greater hurdle to cross,to have that as a set in stone requirement each season would lay waste to coaches regularly.but I was offering what the opposite of that may offer.

It's a better team and they are playing with more spirit. Credit for that. But I still think he is average at best, does not identify talent well, doesn't nurture it well, sticks to his favourites, doesn't hold enough clout to stand up to Doust and Young and is very confusing. He is a cut price coach. We are better than that.

I think Mr Price has read the book and watched the movie The Secret a few too many times. Even though Mitch Rein has played well to suggest he deserves a sky blue jersey is over the top. I wanted him punted at the end of the Anzac game but regardless of happens, it seems that he will there to the end of the season, hopefully he can prove himself to be the real deal.

Price's biggest problem in coaching is his favoritism of certain players, although this year he has made a few better selection choices such as dropping Stanley from that bench hooker role. The selection of Green was a shocker IMO, lucky they'd won for his sake. He's getting better as a coach, results speak for themselves and we are capable of winning against the lesser teams. Top 6 finish would be minimum for par this year.

Minh, I'm not so sure we are being realistic with a top 6 finish? We came 3 rd last in 2013, I would be happy just to make the 8, this is the rebuilding year we should of had in 2012.
On Green I can't see the attraction / he does not have great speed, is suspect in defence and appears flat footed most of the time?

i agree with most comments. whats the fascination he has with green and stanley and why does he tries to manufactures positions for players whose positions are other than the ones hes trying to give them

Usually a top 8 finish is quite underwhelming FlameThrower, with teams scraping in or out in the last couple of weeks. I think if Price can get consistency and win about two games above the 50/50 win loss ratio then we can certainly make the 6. But you could be right and I may be over rating this team a little. It's funny because without the dud decision against the Storm we could easily be 5 and 2 now.

I picked the Dragons as finishing 5th which I still see as attainable and I also believe our best football is ahead of us

A ticket to the finals is worth 28 points. We're currently 12 points (inc. Byes).
We need to win 8 of 17.

Comps a lot closer this year. Souths, Roosters, Storm and Eagles have shown they are vulnerable and are definitely not miles ahead of the rest. Dogs are probably the team to beat at the moment but have been lucky as well with a few close wins.

We're not too far out of it, but teams like the Eels, Tigers and Panthers have improved out of sight as well.

I'm hoping our best footy is still ahead of us, now the combinations have had some time. If we could only land that elusive prop, we'd be in good shape as Dugan, Widdop and our wingers will always keep us in games.

You almost convinced me, but let's not count our chickens before they hatch. Let's review this after origin period. I think by then like the Tour de France , break way pack will sort out the pretenders or contenders!

Good question Dino.
Green is a mystery, although he did drop Stanley.
Next few weeks will be interesting.

It think we have the depth to cover origin if we are playing against other clubs with similar commitment in regard to players picked. It may be an advantage for us depending on the draw which I'll check.

Mate of mine has told me he lives next door to special forces guy who Price has invited to play a roll in motivating and mentoring the players and Price himself.
He took the players to the 3 day boot camp and will give the players a motivational talk on Friday. We can see the players are working hard for each other and are an improvement in defence and attitude to last year so it has made a difference having someone in his position instilling the discipline needed.
Price himself is in regular contact with this guy seeking tips etc.

I think the Dogs will keep improving and hit a great peak at the end of the season. Grinding through gritty wins is actually what's best for them at the moment.
