I found Navarro to be more creative.

His best work was still with Jane's Addiction but I enjoyed One Hot Minute.

Mate, I appreciate your arguments but you're losing me bagging the great EVH.

He really did revolutionise modern guitar playing. That's historical fact.

Jane's addiction were good, also liked the work of porno for pyros

Much the same as your father.

No but serious ron, I don't think Van Halen is anymore talented than Frusciante. Maybe I haven't heard enough of Halen's music and you obviously haven't heard much of Frusciante's music. But I can guarantee you that comparing the two is almost imposible due to the fact that the music is so different. Do you think the Rolling Stones magazine know their music?

He is, end of story, listen to more VH, particulary VH1,2 and even 5150....it's just reality, hell the great Eddie inspired almost every guitarist from 78-to present. The likes of Vai, Satriani, Malmstein, Dimabag were all influenced big time by Eddie.

You haven't, and i've heard enough to suggest that Frush boy isn't anywhere near the level Eddie is on.

No i don't actually, they actually listed Kurt Cobain as one of the all time best guitarist, i stopped reading after i read that. It's a magazine that appreciates certain styles and forms, and at the same time descriminates against certain styles. They don't really go on music talent, but other factors.

They're categorised as traditional heavy metal. They're nothing at all like death metal - not sure if you'ver ever heard them if you think that.

death metal bands include the likes of Cannibal Corpse, Nile, Amon Amarth etc.

Then you've got progressive death like Opeth which is far more melodic.

Then you've got Doom Death which is slower and depressing. Bands such as My Dying Bride and November's Doom are good examples of this genre.

Cradle of Filth tend to be classified as Black Metal but then they have little in common with the traditional BM bands from Norway such as Mayhem, Immortal and Emperor.

However these are all HEAVY bands.

Maiden really aren't heavy. I mean, Dickinson's vocals are operatic. The bands that have tended to follow on from them are the likes of Blind Guardian and Iced Earth.

And Slayer are Thrash - see Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax and Testament.

End of story? I think the end of story is where you stop jacking off over Eddie and accept that he is not. End of story.

A lot of people are involved in the Rolling Stones mag, talented journalists and artists. And I'm 1000000% sure they know their music much better then you think you do. and they listed Frusciante 52 places above Van Halen. I can't think of a better reference to use than that so my point has been proved by people who actually know what they are on about. Van Halen has speed and knows his riffs but it's all the same metal junk. Catch ya later I'm off to buy a new guitar.

Oh and Ron, the reason you stopped reading after you saw Kurt Cobain is cos you didn't see your beloved Van Halen in the top spot. NOT even the top 50 haha. Awwwww, you musta been upset. So long lollipoper!

I get you

tbh ive not thought too much about the difference - i pretty much don't like any of it and dont understand why anyone would listen to music that makes you want to get stabby and leaves you with a headache... but whatever floats your boat.

I admit I haven't heard maiden for a very very long time (early 90s maybe) - a cousin was a fan but i never 'got' it to say the least. I just remember she was into all this weird thrashy death stuff, so I guess I lumped them in.

Fair enough - you probably wouldn't dislike them actually. They're not at all what you're image of metal may be.

Remember too, not all metal is heavy. It is by far the single most diverse genre of music.

I will take you up on that, see if I can find something

recommend their best songs?

dont get me wrong - I like some of what people would class as metal - TOOL, Smashing Pumpkins, STP, NIN, Marilyn Manson (ok those aren't exactly trad metal) but yeah, will see how I go.

will have to be when the mrs isn't around though - she hates anything with guitars....

Nice comback to my answer, yes he is dickhead, it's well documented.

Rolling stones is made up off people with certain tastes, just like the Journo's from guitar magazine. They all have there specific tastes, so naturally there opinions are different.

Also it's a magazine which places a strong emphasis on popular/chart music, and always liek to incorperate the flavour of the month, not to mention it isn't even a magizine totally devoted to music lol

Actually you should ask actual guitarist who the best are, not a journo lol

So if Dean Ritchie has an opinion about a player he's automitically right because he works for News Limited lol

See how opinions change?

You are deadset a f**king idiot, you know jacksh*t about music!!! RHCP are 104.1 stuff  no one wants to sing like Anthony cause it's embarrasing, much like that fruitcake guy you like:lol:

This is all you need to know

- Eddie has sold more music books then anyone else in history
- Eddie along with Jimi are recongised as the two most influential guitarist of all time, not that fruit cake freak you like.

Simple as that, learn to deal with the fact that the guy you spoof over is actually pretty lame, boring, untalented, lacks variety, actually i've heard your mother fanny fart more talent then him tbh.

Yeah i hope that Onyx crap you buy falls of the shelf and hits you in the head, might knock some sense into you.

Actually i didn't read it to Eddie, as like most guitarits we buy guitar magazines, not fashion mags lol

I'll be more upset if you don't get hit by car on the way to buying your Onyx.

Djing is more talented then RHCP:lol:

I do agree with most things said in this thread.

However people need to adapt over time. You can not have likes of ac/dc,kiss,van halen ect ect living forever. Times change as do people.

RnB and Rap seems to be the thing these days and I am sure as time goes new trends will come along.

In 30 years time I am certain that some kid on a forum somewhere will start a thread just like this telling of how the music is really sh*t these days and he missus all the old millenium golden oldies like Akon and Eminem. The day that happens bands like ac/dc will be the same as black and white photos or records are to todays generation.

i'm not gonna argue with idiots such as yourself, who really have no clue about music. I agree that Van Halen is a good guitarist. But dude, his music sucks big time. John Frusciante music is out of this world. Van Halen's music is just typical metal. Please don't reply to this post i don't wanna hear anymore of your nonsense. Just because Eddie wanted to claim fame by writing books doesn't mean he is a better musician than Frusciante. Frusciante has composed every single piece of music on ALL of his solo albums, the guitar the drums, the bass, the synth effects. EVERYTHING was written by him, he writes most of the Peppers stuff too. Van Halen is dead they reunited in 2004 for sweet f**k all. And by the way Van Halen is pretty f**king stupid to have said that holding a pick in his mouth caused him cancer and not smoking tons of cigarettes. HAHA what a tool, like yourself.
