Ivan Cleary One Step Away from the Dragons!!

If we go Cleary, give him 2 years with an option for a 3rd in our favour.

He has good attributes, might be the guy we need to bring through the youngsters, not sure if he will take us to a premiership (hope I'm wrong!).

Don't want to see Toovey at the club.

As for Young and Hornby, agree 100%, they need external experience. Would love for them to become superstar coaches at the dragons one day, but first go get necessary experience.

Maybe do a Hayne and go to the NFL, huh?
Nuh I think Hayne and the NFL proved that there is no room for NRL players in their game, too much internal politics among players that have played NFl from age of 6 to allow an Alien to take there position.

Just to mention Ivan Cleary would be an upgrade on McGregor, he did takeout Daily M coach of the year in 2014 and took the warriors to a GF in 2011, Just for the record Brian Smith is 4 times grandfinalist and 2 times Daily M coach of the year.

This will remain true for another four weeks. But Umina's statement will be true forever.

Ivan Cleary....bring through youngsters.... nah, not your man. You want an A Griffin for that.

You are a dreamer thinking penrifff panfffers will win this years comp...

Penrith are an excellent young team but it's even easier to see them just missing out or having an even better team in front of them for the next few years until age, salary cap pressures, key players going off the boil, teams cheating the salary cap and etc have closed the premiership window for Penrith.

Only time will tell. Pointless to argue about it.

Penrith won't win the comp this year. Or even next.

But they are miles ahead of us. They actually have footy players in their team who don't need a drawing in crayon to know what to do.

Cleary, Moylan, Cartwright and Peachey are exceptional talents. Wallace a hard nosed hooker with halfback smarts. Very high in footy IQ and ability. Makes Griffin look like a pretty handy coach. Raiders are doing the same for Ricky.

We don't have players like that.

He and Hornby may well turn out to be great coaches but as several others have said, they need to get away from the Dragons and serve an apprenticeship elsewhere.

Id prefer to see them both driving coaches to be honest...no more jobs for the boys...fresh staff required ..end of story

I wasn't suggesting we will win this year's comp. I was suggesting that in four weeks it will no longer be true that St George-Illawarra had won a comp within the last 6 years.

Agree regarding jobs for the boys but don't want to discriminate against them either. If they can cut their teeth elsewhere and prove they have what it takes, I'm in favor of welcoming them back. At least in some capacity if not as head coach. I think it would be fantastic to get Nathan Brown back as an assistant coach/talent scout.

Job appointments should be based on best available talent. Rarely, but sometimes it comes from within.

We have been burnt badly with Price / Mary, however that does not eliminate others. At this stage of the clubs existence, i agree fresh blood is needed, but it is by no way a given that , as an example , JD could not be given the reigns for 1 year if we cant attract a top level proven coach.

Its simply not that black and white. Its tantamount to blaming people that may have what we need , on the failures of those before.

Im all for Toovey / Cleary etc to inject new directions, but wont dismiss any internal option either. On the right terms and the right TENURE.
