still won't win a premiership.
Who for you PJ?
I think we need to stay loyal to Paul as a lot of off field pressure is on the team including bad signing, I think the retention of players in our juniors and experience staff needs to be fixed and not Pauls department, also the sale of 51% to NBN will have consequences mostly all above the coach ps I'm glad benji & mitch have gone I'm sick and tired of paying overs for hasbeens drew ,Luciano, are the future let's talk about the kids coming through

What I would like to see in order of importance (and I understand that everyone will have their own opinions and that's fine).

1. Mary gone
2. New coach appointed. If this is JD given a year to see how he goes or Cleary for two years plus an option in the clubs favour I don't care. I would love Brian Smith on the same terms as above, they bring different skills that the cub could utilise.
3. A Hooker and Dummy Half. I dont care if they come from inside if we have players who can do the job or from outside. What I want to see however is a skill set throughout the spine where each compliments the others and we implement a plan for this to happen. I have said this previously, I don't mind a power running fullback, but have a game plan and spine that allow for this.
3. Center for me is still a problem, I don't think that Atkin is the answer, for all his positives I find it hard to actually pinpoint where he should play. I am not saying he should be our hooker but physically he reminds me of one more than any other position.

I believe there is the foundation of a good team. The changes needed are not team wide but they involve the three most important elements. Coach, Half, Hooker.

Job appointments should be based on best available talent. Rarely, but sometimes it comes from within.

We have been burnt badly with Price / Mary, however that does not eliminate others. At this stage of the clubs existence, i agree fresh blood is needed, but it is by no way a given that , as an example , JD could not be given the reigns for 1 year if we cant attract a top level proven coach.

Its simply not that black and white. Its tantamount to blaming people that may have what we need , on the failures of those before.

Im all for Toovey / Cleary etc to inject new directions, but wont dismiss any internal option either. On the right terms and the right TENURE.

Its a combination mate. Absolutely we need a new coach with fresh ideas but its all about having a coachable roster as well.

Sides like Penrith, the Raiders, the Sharks have benefitted from having an injection of players that give their coaches so much more to work with. Griffin must be laughing having freakish talents like Moylan, Cartwright, Peachey and Cleary all in the same backline. How about the Sharks having Bird, Holmes, Maloney, Barba and Townsend. Or the Raiders having Austin, Sezer, Rapana and Leilua.

These sorts of players can make any coach look good, even Ricky, Flanno and Price.

Mary's a dope but let's face it, he didn't have players of this calibre to work with.

At the beginning of the season, I thought that Madge, Robinson and Hasler would be under pressure to keep their jobs. Robinson and Madge are safe for now, but how long do the grubs give Hasler? He must surely be under pressure. Anyway there's your premiership winning coach if that's what we are after.
If not, whoever else we sign, they need to be given at least a two year contract no more of this 1 year contract rubbish. It really creates too much uncertainty and not enough time for the coach to plan properly. If we sign clearly or even JD for just 12 months, you'll find we are in another situation with a coach who will simply play a straight bat hoping to limp into the finals just to get a contract extension.
The new coach needs some security about his job.

I agree Tru ..some say Bennett won us the title in 2010 and yes he is a master coach BUT he still needed the cattle to work with so to speak...and if you look back at out team then we had some very talented players and some bloody great forwards that played for 80

Hasler and the Dogs have the same problems we do. They are devoid of actual footy players with brains and smarts.

Dogs let their only 2 organisers and tacticians go (Ennis and Hodko). Doesn't matter that you have the biggest and most expensive pack in the comp or a flyer like Bmoz out wide. Or a super coach like Hasler. Teams aren't going anywhere unless you have a spine with a clue.

Forgive me, but a spine of Hopoate, Reynolds, Mbye and Lichaa actually makes our useless spine look almost decent. In fact, Graham and Kasiano do most of their organising.

I'm betting the Panthers and their young kids do a number on them this weekend.

I wasn't suggesting we will win this year's comp. I was suggesting that in four weeks it will no longer be true that St George-Illawarra had won a comp within the last 6 years.

What else do they teach you out in the sticks mate ? Mind telling me the last time penrith won a grand final..? More than 10 years ago hmmm
