Ok i just got some red flashing lights and cant play anything. Is there anything i can do to try and fix it before i send it in to a professional?

There is some trick about wrapping the XBOX in a blanket and keeping it on for 20mins, this will fix your red light problem...View youtube for a demonstration.. As for the warranty Microsoft only covers units that have all quandrants displaying the red ring of death...Mine was only 1 quandrant which I had to pay $132 to get it fixed, this also included another years warranty.

The number of lights represent different errors. I don't know about 1 or 2, but 3 is the RRoD and 4 means your video cable isn't plugged in. The extended warranty only covers 3 so if you ever get 1 or 2 it's a good idea to wrap your 360 in a blanket and turn it on near a heater so you get the 3 and the whole process is free.

I've got 3 atm. Does this mean it's stuffed and need to be sent in??

Would anyone advise AGAINST getting a pre-owned XBOX 360 from EB games? I'm considering it as I wanna play Force unleashed but would like some advice first...

Well my xbox 360 finally, after 2 years, gave out. Red Ring of Death reared its ugly head and started flashing at me last night....

I've registered my product online and applied for the repair under warranty and such, but wanted to know what experience anyone has with the amount of time it will be sent away for??

I've read that while Xbox has already paid for the mail costs it can actually be much quicker to use your own courier and just wear the $50 or whatever to guarantee a safe return.

Whats everyone's opinion on this??

also, will they just send me a new console or actually fix the one I've got?? Given there are 5-6 things that cause the RROD I am wondering if anyone has had to send the same xbox back more than once. Would be pretty pathetic if they just fix the 1 thing that has broken and dont make any preventative repairs.

thanks

I sent my firsy XBOX360 some time last year 6 weeks later they replaced it with a new one...6 weeks ago I got the red ring of death I was advise that it was not covered by the extended Microsoft warranty as all quandrants weren't in red.....It took a week to get it back and a $132 poorer...

Its the reason I didn't buy an XBox. Screw the vast array of games and good online capabilities. They don't count for anything if your machine is broken....and yes, I know there have been some issues with PS3's but nothing like the RROD.

I just couldn't bring myself to buy a product that is faulty and the manufacturer knows that it is faulty.

Oh I'm no fan boy...buy what you like.

There have been issues with PS3's, that is certain, but nothing like RROD.

I probably would have bought an Xbox if it didn't do that...

The eternal XBOX v PS fight.... will it never end.

I own a PS3 and have had no problems. The reason why I bought the PS3? Gran Turismo....... and the fact that I have always had PS' and never had an issue.

But there is no reason why I wouldnt switch to an XBOX if it had the GT franchise.

Indeed.

I nearly bought one...I was a day from buying one...when I read all about the RROD. It put me off it. But plenty of people enjoy their Xboxes so kudos to them.

Horses for courses...they both do the same thing don't they?

i was talking about warriors4life not you ...

people who buy xbox 360s are suckers plain and simple ... they pay hundreds for a product they know will f**k up at anytime and they also know the manufacturor knows it's faulty because it was rushed so they could beat off sony ...
