Would never have happened in the good old days, eh Barry? There's a thing called a salary cap. I'd lke to produce both superstars and solid player. But these days superstars walk regardless of who 'raised' them
Gennings, Oldfield and Opacic aren't "average first graders". They are career backups. Opacic might be a solid first grader who's been hampered by injury (or just reserve grader) but the other two are absolutely no better than backups. Dunster might be no better than this (he has been so far) but given his age he is a chance of becoming the next Sosaia Feki. When he was Dunster's age he hadn't played any first grade. By his 26th birthday he had won a premiership.I am going to be honest. Producing an at best average NRL player has no interest to me. They can be purchased cheap and will not win you a comp.
Dunster is an example of this.He may surprise and become very good but I would lean on a G.Jennings level. Will he be any better then Oldfield or Opacic? You can pick up these type of quality guys anywhere.
Think of all of those carbs...The silly old man has lost the plot!No one cares about his favourite brand of pasta!
More like Sosaia Feces! Amirite @hindy111?Gennings, Oldfield and Opacic aren't "average first graders". They are career backups. We expect all your posts to be honest. Why the need to point it out now?
You rave about how many “juniors” Penrith produce but none of them are really elite.
The purpose of juniors aren’t to be exciting or win you an NRL comp. They’re (or should be if Rorters would stop picking them apart) to give the team options with succession planning and somewhat there to drive the performances of the players who are there to win you a comp.
Dunster isn’t a great example of this admittedly because ok wingers are available regularly, but Jrthur is prime example. As potentially is Penisini and Russell. As was Mahoney back when he was a junior.
I reckon it’s the opposite elite players will always be paid elite money, but constantly producing average NRL players mean you can fill your squad with players on unders.
This allows you to pay for the couple of elite players you need. Most sides are filled with average players and the better sides generally go better as they manage squad better by getting them cheap (roosters, storm, panthers). While the crappy sides need to pay overs to get average players (tigers, Titans, dogs for example).
once the average player wants to much we just let them go and replace with another average junior player .....
I don’t really get a chub in the pants about it either. Just pointing out that they all can’t be superstars.
He was commenting on the necessary ratio that’s required. You can’t fill your squad with elite players.I disagree. Average players on 150k are going to take what kind of unders? 10k? Maybe 15k? Elite player who might be offered 750k + would perhaps stays for 50k unders knowing it's still great money.
I think you're looking at it the wrong way. None of them stay for unders. Some of them are on unders for a year or two early in their careers, but by the time they've played a season of NRL the minimum they'll sign/re-sign for is market value. Likewise for a young first grader before he becomes a superstar - Dylan Brown (for example) might be on $600k this year but by the end of the season could be worth a million or more. He'd be on unders until he signs his next contract. However desperate clubs offer everyone overs, and for elite players this can be hundreds of thousands of dollars. Meanwhile overs for solid first graders like Napa, Tetevano and Curtis Scott might've been less than $100k. This might seem like semantics but the point is that the top players are offered a lot more than an extra $50k to sign elsewhere. Addo-Carr is probably getting an extra $300k/year to leave Melbourne for the lowly Dogs. Guys like Fifita and Cotric would be getting similar upgrades to leave their junior clubs. They're not turning down that sort of money.I disagree. Average players on 150k are going to take what kind of unders? 10k? Maybe 15k? Elite player who might be offered 750k + would perhaps stays for 50k unders knowing it's still great money.

It's one of the reasons why this country is stuffed!!
You are massively overrating them. I’ll give you Fisher Harris, Chinry and maybe To’o as being above average but none are nor will be elite. Luai might be but he also might not be. Everyone is creaming themselves over Staines after one game. So far to me he’s Jordan Atkins 2.0.Crighton,Too,JFH,Yeo,Cleary,Luai,Spencer, Staines are all close or will be close to representative...They are or will be far better then average NRL players
Naden,Martin,Leota I would say are average NRL players. Or slightly above.
The next Alfie langer???
So you juice boys would rather we produce back ups than super stars in our juniors. Bunch of weirdos.
