If anyone's interested , in the MMQB section of cnnsi.com, there is an interview of Jarryd with Peter King ( head NFL reporter)

Very interesting, Jarryd mentioned he played a massive club like Parramatta ( some photos of Jarryd playing for the Eels) and how he is there for the challenge etc etc

Worth a look

I watched the Broncos game last week and their special teams were terrible, Hayne might have a good shot at impressing again.

NRL 360 said last night that both Taumalolo and Taupau want to give NFL a go.

I would think that they face far greater competition for spots than Hayne ?

Thing is, what position would they play? Would they line-up as fullbacks where they're mainly blocking? Or would they line up as run-stopping LB's?

Is it true that the 49ers QB is on a $160m contract ?

I don't think it was 160.

It was also structured weirdly where he gets like 20 mill a year but they could review him every year or something, so there was very little guaranteed.

This story is a complete beat up. Very, very few would make it over there. Hayne is a freak and even he has had to work his arse off just to get a chance to show what he can do. And he has been a close student of the game for many years. There would be millions of Taupau's and Taumalolo's over there - why would you risk using a bloke who has never played the game and doesn't know the game.

I think Hayne's skills and physical attributes are more in line with those in the NFL than Taumalolo's and Taupau's but that's the exact same line that was trotted out when Hayne first announced he was trying his hand at the NFL.

He has a decent amount guaranteed, but most of his contract is performance based.
He can earn up to that high amount but only if he hits certain stats and gets his team to the Playoffs/Super Bowl.

It was a highly criticised contract when it was first signed, but as details of it came out it looks like a good deal for the Niners. They only have to pay the big bucks if he is successful (well, he will still get big bucks regardless but you know what I mean).

He's got a 3 year contract, for about $1.5m in total. They don't have to pay him any more than that. And they can choose to let him go today and pay just a tick over $100k.

By the sounds of it he'd be better off if the 49ers ditched him and then what ? He goes into the draft ? Does that mean they bid for him ?

I have taped Draft Day but not watched it yet ....

Yeah I knew it was huge and remember the hoopla when it was first signed and then also remember the details being weird and a little different than normal and the 49ers were in a win/win kind of situation.

If the 49ers don't sign him they have a thing called waivers where all the teams have the opportunity to bid for the services and the highest bidder wins and only after a player clears waivers (meaning no one big for you) can a team pick them up for either really cheap or you could go on a practice squad.

That's my understanding anyways, but I could be a little or a lot wrong

If he gets picked up I will watch my first full game of NFL that's for sure. I reckon a lot of other Aussies will do the same.

Was reading that his best chance of making it is the 5th running back. So even if he makes the squad as a RB, there is still no guaranteed game time is there?

That's basically right. If they cut him, the other teams would have opportunity to take over his existing contract (if 2 teams want him, the one that is higher in draft order wins I think). If nobody wants to take over the existing contract, he'd become an unrestricted free agent. I'll double check these details sometime.

It just means that they can justify a 5th running back and he will take most of their kick and punt returns and maybe play some running back at the end of a game of they are up by enough to take all their other RB's off.

Like on Sunday he will probably get some more special teams plays where he run down the field when the 49ers are kicking or punting.
