Yeah I knew it was huge and remember the hoopla when it was first signed and then also remember the details being weird and a little different than normal and the 49ers were in a win/win kind of situation.

Just had another look into it and it's worked out better for the Niners than I thought.
The contract is 'worth' $126 million over 7 years, but he could end up getting a fraction of that.
He did receive a signing bonus of $12M, but his salary last season came to just $645k.

Starting from this coming season, his salary goes down $2M each year that he doesn't make either the All-Pro First Team or Second Team (which he is unlikely to do), or if the Niners don't make the Super Bowl (with the added caveat that Kap has to have taken 80% of the snaps).

As it turns out, the only guaranteed money Kap is owed is $61M - but only if he gets injured.
As it stands right now, the Niners could cut him and owe him absolutely nothing. This is an incredibly rare contract in the NFL, especially for a QB who would have definitely been signed up by somebody on a good deal if he wanted to leave.

I love it!
Not only is it a great deal for my team, but it also shows that Kap is willing to let his play dictate his salary, and has the confidence to make sure he does his best.

Wish there were some Eels players who would do something like this.

Apparently the owner was checking him out. You'd think just on publicity alone he'll make it. What the niners could do if they want to keep all the rb's is waiver hunter, as no one is likely to pick him up. I think they waived hunter last year from memory with his acl injury

Best Eels player I've ever seen.

I'm beginning to feel that he is the best rugby league player I've ever seen. Even Ken Thornett doesn't come up to the same consistent all-round skills Jarryd Hayne put on 2006-2014 and Ken has always been my number 1 immortal until now. To my way of thinking, as Eels fans we've been spoilt rotten with Jarryd, even to the point of taking Jarryd for granted. In hindsight, what we have all gone through with our club since Smithy left the coaching ranks and now watching that video again just gave me an even deeper enriched appreciation for Jarryd which I never thought possible. Hope he one day comes back to play one last season or two for the Eels before he retires from football/league.

Imagine what that highlights video looks like if he sticks around for another 5+ years. He's the best I've seen. The only thing missing from his League career is a premiership, and his three best shots at that were robbed by a team massively cheating the cap. If this truly is the end of his career in our game, he has nothing to regret not achieving.

We could have had something special if Tim Smith turned into the player he had the potential to be, but the footy gods wouldn't let it be.

Is it safe to say that right now Jarryd Hayne is more popular outside of the game than when he was in the game?

If he were to come back from a successful year in the NFL I'm sure he'd get alot of bums on seats playing his first game. He left as a star and comes back a superstar.

I'm sure he is the best I've seen. Surpasses even Brett Kenny. The defence of Hayne & some other modern fullbacks sets them well apart. The try savers - rolling players at the last moment - are something that have evolved and just weren't there in the past.

How old are you if you have seen Ken Thornett play?

Thanks for that. You are right, Kap certainly has backed himself and you really have to admire that.

He also thinks in defense. He sometimes goes for a strip and in the old days, a shoulder charge.

Ken Thornett was a visionary. Lot of people think Kevin Humphreys and Ron McAulliffe came up with the idea of Rugby League State of Origin....
Ken Thornett suggested it in his book TACKLING RUGBY in 1966....15 YEARS BEFORE THE FIRST SOO..
