Money talks. Often in the NFL you play the guys you pay.

Anyway, he will get a shot in the second half and next week they might sit Bush and Hyde.

Well Hayne didn't get much opportunity at all. First game I have watched with him and his best contribution was his receiving of a pass for a first down. Otherwise they seemed to do their best to keep him out of play.

Is it normal to kick a ball out so they can't get a kick return going? Or would it be a tactic used to eliminate that part of Haynes game?

All kickers aim to kick the ball out

Personally I'd like to see the NFL move the kick off to the 20 yard line, to eliminate this

Very normal. Ideal actually. It is more common in the thin Denver air than elsewhere.

They won't. There has been a number of changes to kickoffs over the last decade to reduce the chance of injuries.

Looking from my house across the road to the park there are two groups of boys pegging NFL balls around.

Gotta be Hayne factor.

Watching this, and seeing what Hayne is experiencing WIWO, just makes his claim in yesterday's media that every week is like State of Origin, true. This is a trial game. Look at the stadium, and the crowd, and the hype, and the pressure.
The guy is living his dream. There would 2/3, if we are lucky, NRL players who would make this league. Hayne would be at the top of the tree in that list.
I'm proud he's one of ours.

Well said. Very proud. They even showed some Eels footage during the telecast today when he was first mentioned.

It's a great story.

I am still just astounded at his guts and ability to make it this far in a new sport.

He has achieved everything he has ever wanted to achieve as an individual. To say he won't achieve this would be the call of a brave man. The people that know him, knew he would be a success. Everyone in the Rugby League world (not just Parra fans) will now know too.

Great athlete.

And, just as an aside, and it's nobody's f**king business yet it was posted in yesterday's real estate section of a newspaper, Hayne was smart before he went to the States.
He has built up quite a nice portfolio of real estate assets to set up his future. He is smart beyond his age.

Hayne didn't get much chance to show his stuff today.
Only got to do one kick return, and he brought it back for about 10 yards. The other kicks were touchbacks (kicking it dead) which meant Hayne didn't get to run them back.

He took some snaps at RB, but didn't make any yards. The offensive line was terrible all day, and gave their running backs and quarterback no chance to do anything.

He did make one nice catch for a first down. He had a chance to catch another, but the pass was too far out in front of him.

So overall, not much to get excited about in this game (from Jarryd or the Niners in general).

If it appears I have a bit of Hayne love atm, I do.

I just watched this again.
He's not only the best Eels player I've ever seen, he's the best Rugby League player I've ever seen.

Agreed. Watched this video again. Will be hard to keep him from being an immortal over the next 10 years or so. Can any of us think of a player who has achieved what Jarryd has pulled off across a broad spectrum of skills and "impossibilities" (so to speak) prolifically over 9 seasons in the NRL?

I really can't think of any player that even comes close. Can think of awesome specialists in particular positions. Can think of crafty, intelligent and tough never say die leaders. Can think of powerful, big engine, silky ball playing forwards paving the way to victory.

Can think of great ball players, off loaders, attackers, defenders, utilities, passers, kickers, etc, and a few players with an excellent mix of attack, defence, offloading, ball playing, passing and kicking skills, but I can't think of any player with the extreme, wide variety of consistent high performance levels of skill, power, speed, defence, attack while being capable of easily playing in almost all positions across the field at such a high, reliable standard. A player who consistently pulls off impossible magic for at least 6 to 8 NRL seasons.

And he carried our team almost on his own for at least 4 of those seasons.

Sure, he never won a Grand Final, and he was cheated from possibly winning 2 or even 3 thanks to the Storm. And he did excel in SOO and for Australia.

Can you imagine his stature if he played for our 81 to 86 squads?

Or playing for Manly, Roosters, Dogs or Storm since 2006?

Or played for Qld in SOO?

Easily now the best player of all-time.

Sure, never saw Dally Messenger, Dave Brown and Clive Churchill, but I would be surprised if they could bring to the table what Jarryd has been able to do collectively over 9 seasons in the NRL.

Agreed, Ken Thornett, Wally Lewis, Bob Fulton, Reg Gasnier, Johnny Raper, Ray Price, Graham Langlands, Arthur Beetson, Andrew Johns, Peter Sterling, Brett Kenny, Norm Provan, Ricky Stuart Alan Langer, Steve Mortimer, Steve Renouf, Mal Meninga, Inglis, Billy Slater, SBW, Cameron Smith, Steve Walters and could easily come up with another 50 to 100 fantastic RL players, but for me, none of them can come up to the freaky standards of Jarryd Hayne.

I was going to say. Did Jarryd hypnotise some of you blokes at some point in the past? :)
