Well done to the guy.

Still doesn't stop him from being a dishonourable prick, though. The fact remains he dogged us and broke his word so he could run away and take care of himself. Great example to set. You can all circlejerk all you want but he most likely cost us a spot in the 8 this year.

Also, I'm not liking the cultural cringe involved in the whole thing. I still believe it would be a greater achievement for an NFL guy to make an NRL squad in 4 months than an NRL guy to make an NFL squad. We have the better game and the bowing down to the "greatness" of the NFL is what shits me the most about this whole thing. Followed closely by the braindeadness of everyone circlejerking.

Still, the kid's an athlete, that's for sure. He can muck around a little this year and basically learn and he's probably still safe to make the cut next year. That'll be the do or die year to see if he is more than a developmental project or not. Will be interesting to watch.

There's an anonymous journo at the herald who is also trying to use Hayne to gain attention for herself.

You should sue her for stealing your idea.

It's a shame people have to deflect away from how good they are and credit god imo.

If you knew about the psychology required to achieve at this level you wouldn't criticise what people choose for their personal motivation. The kind of pressure these guys are under would cripple most people.

Jarryd Hayne’s reaction: ‘This whole journey, I’ve never felt so alive’
Posted on September 5, 2015 by Cam Inman
When it came to announcing a youth-laden roster, the 49ers did not hold a formal press conference, prompting Jarryd Hayne to scramble for word of his fate.

The Australian rugby-league star had been doing what so many other foreign visitors do in the Bay Area: tour the San Francisco waterfront, visit a museum, scout out fine-dining options.

A 1:15 p.m. phone call to his agent, Jack Bechta, cleared things up for Hayne.

“This whole journey was never about making a roster or being on a team,” Hayne said. “It was about giving myself an opportunity. I wanted to take a risk, put myself out there and put my faith in action.

“Faith without action is dead. This whole journey, I’ve never felt so alive.”

Best suited as a return specialist, Hayne emerged as a multi-talented asset throughout a riveting exhibition season, all of which set the stage for congratulatory words Saturday from coach Jim Tomsula.

“Welcome to the starting line. It’s a long race,” Tomsula wrote in a text message to Hayne, which he received while touring San Francisco with his family.

“For them to see something different in me and want to explore that option, it’s really those guys I need to thank, for opening the door and giving me the opportunity,” Hayne said on a media conference call.

Hayne, citing his nine years in Australia’s National Rugby League, understands that the level of competition now intensifies.

“Preseason for the pros is a warmup, where blokes on the bubble like myself are doing their best to be seen and noticed,” Hayne said. “We all know the season is a whole new kettle of fish.”

Tomsula appreciates what an accomplishment this is for Hayne.

“He was at the top of his sport, and from what I understand, he was a national figure back home,” Tomsula said. “He put that on hold, walked away from that to try something new. That’s very courageous.

Former 49ers offensive lineman Jesse Sapolou, a Samoa native, noted the significance of Hayne’s achievement overseas, adding: “You’re a pioneer to all from Australia and New Zealand who want to play Gridiron. Welcome to the 49er family.”

Only a few Hayne jerseys remained on the rack inside the stadium’s team store Saturday immediately after the roster was announced.

“The support has just been incredible. It really has,” Hayne said. “Words don’t really describe how great it is, to see so many people support me, and all the Aussies in the NFL.

“Australia is such a sporting country, we’re very proud of where we’re from. To see so many people get behind me, and everybody over here in America having fun and chasing dreams, I can’t begin to thank them and everyone back home for the love and support.”

What a fkn legend. He didn't abandon parra. They spent years screwing him over and wasting his talent. They took him for granted and got what they deserved in the end. Go get 'em champ. Teach the seppos a thing or two about a proper power game.

You're right, I just don't get it. I'm ok with that though, it's my choice.

Yeah you can choose to be ignorant. We live in a safe enough place that there are no consequences to turning our noses up at other people's beliefs.

All those Christians/Muslims/Buddhists are just morons right? Make sure you point it out every chance you get.

We gave him a f**kload of money and set him up for life. 'Chasing your dreams' is a lot easier when you know your retirement is going to be comfortable no matter what happens.

Hayne owed us nothing imo.

He asked for a release to play NFL, and it was granted.

And now, imo, he can be counted among Australia's best ever athletes.

Well done Jarryd, what a ride.

It seems that one man and another league altogether is overshadowing the NRL at the moment. Good to see we have another sport to watch over the summer.

If anything the club owed him

He was dedicated and loyal till the very last second of his career as a parramatta eel. Sadly the club wasn't as successful as it should've been but he kept shining and being the man to keep us in games

Last year I felt was his best year (even better than the 09 flurry to the Gf) and our boys matured as players around him and I feel that's why we didn't fall into a heap when he left and honestly if we win today 10th is a respectable finish for a team with the off field shit we have had and losing our best player

Good luck to Hayne in his journey

Very proud of him

Nope, not morons at all. I'm happy for them that they have their faith. Just because I don't believe in any of it doesn't mean I hate the people who live their life by it. That's like saying everyone who supports (insert team name) is a moron because it's not the team you support.

By the way, why am I ignorant because I said I don't get why people praise god when they are the ones who actually did the work? Your belief in god did not get you there, your faith in yourself is what got you there.

You always hear "I'd like the thank god for this (insert achievement here)" but you funnily enough never hear "I'd like to thank god for drowning that 3 year old Syrian boy". Weird.
