Well done to the guy.

Still doesn't stop him from being a dishonourable prick, though. The fact remains he dogged us and broke his word so he could run away and take care of himself. Great example to set. You can all circlejerk all you want but he most likely cost us a spot in the 8 this year.

Also, I'm not liking the cultural cringe involved in the whole thing. I still believe it would be a greater achievement for an NFL guy to make an NRL squad in 4 months than an NRL guy to make an NFL squad. We have the better game and the bowing down to the "greatness" of the NFL is what shits me the most about this whole thing. Followed closely by the braindeadness of everyone circlejerking.

Still, the kid's an athlete, that's for sure. He can muck around a little this year and basically learn and he's probably still safe to make the cut next year. That'll be the do or die year to see if he is more than a developmental project or not. Will be interesting to watch.

I'm wondering who the selfish one is here!!

Nope, not morons at all. I'm happy for them that they have their faith. Just because I don't believe in any of it doesn't mean I hate the people who live their life by it. That's like saying everyone who supports (insert team name) is a moron because it's not the team you support.

By the way, why am I ignorant because I said I don't get why people praise god when they are the ones who actually did the work? Your belief in god did not get you there, your faith in yourself is what got you there.

You always hear "I'd like the thank god for this (insert achievement here)" but you funnily enough never hear "I'd like to thank god for drowning that 3 year old Syrian boy". Weird.

You really believe yourself here? That is a very simplistic slant - almost as if you believe that people are claiming some sort of direct intervention. Which of course is ridiculous and beyond even childish.

Hayne is claiming nothing of the sort - to think that he is doing this is ridiculous and beyond even childish.

@jarrydhayne_1: IT ALWAYS WORKS OUT! I thank GOD for WHAT HE has done and going to do on this incredible journey!! I'm on the 53 MAN ROSTER FOR THE #49ers.

Read the bold bit. Unless he is referring to himself as god and referring to himself in the third person?

He hasn't said God did everything. God may of only played a small part in Hayne's mind, but isn't that enough if it helps Hayne achieve his goals, or even just if Hayne thinks he has?
You may be a non believer. So be it.
But I like the fact Hayne has a faith in something other than his own abilities, and that belief is a help to him.
Good on him.

All I said was I don't get it, FMD! It's like I'm not allowed to have an opinion because I don't believe in a fictional character in a fictional book.

But you've said it before.
You don't need to go on and on about it.
We get it. You don't get it.

Before? When have I questioned why people thank "god" in speeches etc.?

I have said I don't believe in it but my point in this was why credit something else completely? Happens all the time.

I said I wasn't questioning faith, good on anyone who has it, clearly they are much better people than me. I just find it odd is all.

I do apologise though because clearly I should not have an opinion on a public forum.

You are being deliberately shallow. Hayne makes no suggestions as to what he believes God has done. You've filled in the blanks and come up with something that aligns with your views. There is no need to do that.

To put it in perspective - Hayne could've thanked his mum. Doesn't mean his mum intervened to get him on the team or that his mum used her cash to buy a ticket to the game at the expense of someone who is starving.

Well his mom has done more than "god", but whatever. I'm glad he has faith and I'm glad it helps him.

He capitalised WHAT HE has done, so he obviously believes it was significant.

I find it funny though that once you deflect anything away from that fictional character how upset people get, it really is amusing because the same people who are supposed to be tolerant certainly become different than they claim to be.

You all enjoy your faith because it most definitely makes you better than me, and obviously any non believers. Congratulations

There's no need to get upset. I can't see that what you believe either way entitles anyone to put words into Hayne's mouth when they simply were not there. You don't know what he was being grateful for any more than I do.

That he is being grateful is enough. He has been wonderfully humble.

You're the one offended, and getting cranky, and less tolerant.

But why does it upset you so much?

You might think God is fictional, but Hayne obviously believes in Him. What's the problem if he wants to thank God?

I'm not upset, I think you are hilarious. I have not criticised him personally, my original post was that he didn't credit himself at all, which I find strange.

Nope, not offended or cranky, very amused at fictional character loving people is all and enjoying antagonising the blind love.

I knew this was coming when I posted my first post about it. My only point was that he didn't credit himself, which he really should because he did the seemingly impossible. I'm not saying he should have said how wonderful he is or be big headed, just acknowledge how hard you worked.

Just remember, it's all in gods plan, ALL OF IT

It's a shame people have to deflect away from how good they are and credit god imo.

But why does it upset you so much?

Upset? I just said it's a shame originally. It was an opinion which I clearly can't have.

Getting upset is watching Parramatta f**k up another game they should have won.

I'm with you brother. Id like one of these merkins to get up one day and thank Jah for setting them on the path to enlightenment.

It's funny how certain people have jumped on you for that. All you said was you don't get it - which is perfectly fair enough. A moron? I don't think so. The one's criticising you don't get it either. I wonder have they ever heard the expression: "Faith can move mountains - but don't forget to bring a shovel"? In other words, they probably think that having 'faith' in a higher power is some sort of psychological ploy.
My opinion is that God will help you do things; not do them for you.
It's also my opinion that God probably doesn't answer every request in the affirmative - much like any sane parent doesn't give their three-year-old child everything they want. A three year old can't work that out and doesn't think that's fair. But the point is: I DON'T KNOW. It's just my thinking on the matter. In the end, I don't get it either. Those criticising you are just bigots.
