It's pretty common, SOO bonus, finals bonus, match payments, etc etc. The NRL have formulas for it which see some of the cap liability moved onto the following year, averaging and so on.

- Win bonuses and appearance fees – Payments for appearing in or winning a game are calculated based on the number of NRL games the player played in the prior year multiplied by any applicable bonuses. For win bonuses, the calculation is capped at 13 wins. Example: A player appeared in 10 NRL games in 2017 and now has a 2018 Contract for $100,000 contract fee plus $1,000 per game. His - Salary Cap Value would be $100,000 plus 10 times $1000 = $110,000.

- Other bonuses – Any other bonus contained in a player's contract will be calculated in the Salary Cap if the NRL Salary Cap Auditor expects him to achieve the bonus based on his prior year's performance.

Example: A player played State of Origin in 2017. His 2018 Contract includes a $20,000 State of Origin bonus. This bonus will be included in the player's 2018 Salary Cap Value.

Note: Where a bonus is achieved by a player but was not assessed in the player's Salary Cap Value, the bonus is carried forward and calculated in the player's Salary Cap Value for the following year.

I expect we'll pay more than we'd want to get rid of one of the halves and give Hayne more than we think he's worth, probably a backended two-year deal of about $800K per year, cos that's how we roll.

I see 12mths pointless. I am unsure we can win comp in 2019 so dont see why use him.
If Hayne wants a yesr he would be perfect for a team like Saints who would be a complete side with him and are in a premiership window.
Storm also and Brisbane.

I think its dangerous going into 2020 with so many guys off contract.Seems like a clueless plan.

Ive said this before. Id rather Hayne walks and spend 650k on a top shelf prop. We have so many options inside club and to many guys capable of first grade and on top 17 money who will be in Wenty come rnd 1 if everyones fit.

Unless we can move Bevan Hoffman Taka on I dont see point of signing Hayne.
Of the 3 Taka is most versatile. I think we need to release 2 of the 3 if Hayne stays.
