Merrin is way past it.

He is 29 for all of next season.
I dont think he is elite. But at the right price he is little risk. And there is still a chance he returns to origin form. I doubt he would cost more then 400k and at worse he plays like a 300k prop and brings experience.
The upside is if he gets into form we have a 650k player.
Guys like this dont stuff your team or cap. Its guys like Evans who are complete boom or busts that do. I dont know Evans deal but I highly doubt its much under 300k. My guess would be about that. Give or take 50k each way.
A 25yld prop on the way up doesnt sign a 3yr deal if its not healthy looking.
You only have to look at Alvaro and Terepo only ever getting1 or 2 yr deal so far.

Merrin average 100mtrs a game with 9.5 hit ups a game and about 40% post contact meter.
25 tackles and 90.8%efficency in a team with horrid defense.
And an offload a game.
31 tackle breaks.....

Individual I think Alvaros game would rise if given. But Brown I feel would fire up the team more and blast them.

I see 12mths pointless. I am unsure we can win comp in 2019 so dont see why use him.
Because you still need to win games, whether you're going to win the comp or not. Do you really think 2018 was no different to 2017 for Eels fans? Last year we won 16 games. We had hope right up until the second week of the finals. That's what it's all about - believing you can win the next game. Without that why even bother watching?

Who cares if we sign Hayne for next year and then he leaves? As long as we get value while he's here we all benefit.
If Hayne wants a yesr he would be perfect for a team like Saints who would be a complete side with him and are in a premiership window.
Storm also and Brisbane.

I think its dangerous going into 2020 with so many guys off contract.Seems like a clueless plan.
That's why the job of re-signing the players we want to keep has already started, plus informing the players who won't be offered extensions. This is a big time of their career for players who only have a year to run on their contracts. Players who are out of contract, like Hayne, should be hearing warning bells that they don't have somewhere to be for pre-season training in 11 days. Guys like Norman and Moses will be focused on working out where they will be in November next year.
Ive said this before. Id rather Hayne walks and spend 650k on a top shelf prop. We have so many options inside club and to many guys capable of first grade and on top 17 money who will be in Wenty come rnd 1 if everyones fit.
Agreed

Agreed

My point is more if Hayne signs and we dont release Bevan,Taka and or Hoffman we have lot of dead cap space.
Of course these guys may not be avaiable, but if where imagine landing a top shelf prop. It would improve the team plenty.
There is plenty of options for the 1-7 already.

Guth,Bevan,Mj,Taka,Fergo,Moses,Norm would be very close to the top 4 side we had. I guess Fergo swaps with Semi.
There is also potential of Norman to fullback and promoting young Brown or Salmon in halves. And then potential booms in Dunster,Parry and Sivo.
Then the safe options of Hoffman and Jennings. Little upside but can do a job.

I really like the idea of Norman at fullback and throwing Brown or Salmon in.

That’s fine, and possibly a good idea. I don’t think Merrin would be a bad signing at the right price...I just don’t think he’s anywhere close to top-shelf.

Good replacement for Mannah.

Mannah

Per game 108.9m - better than Merrin
8.4 hit ups per game - 1.5 hitups less but more metres than Merrin
36.6% post contact metres (Merrins is 36.4%) - same
25 tackles per game - same
92.1% tackle efficiency - in a team coming dead last - better than Merrin
offloads - Merrin better

Mannah does take a lot of runs from kick offs and trys. Perhaps Merrin does too I am unsure.
Merrin wouldnt replace Mannah in 2019 but perhaps in 2020.

I have a suggestion for Captain. Without a doubt after Brown our best forward. He is a respectful young man who gives it his all. I wouldn’t hesitate. Want to guess who it is?

This weekend I will reveal my all new “ achievable eels” squad for 2019 based on availables and disgruntled players at other clubs.

I am afraid that the cost will be at least half of the current squad.
