Atheist make me laugh as much as people with blind faith. Even Nobel winning scientists have admitted that they really can't explain what energy is. And to think there are some smarties here who reckon they know the answers. Atheists want you to believe that basically the universe won over a million powerball draws in a row which any person knows is impossible but can't accept there was a maker.

Watch the video above this man does not have blind faith. He questions and makes you think. He has owned Richard Dawkins on plenty of debates. Even Darwin wanted people to have a leap of faith in relation to the obvious gaps in his theory, yet Christians for instance are scorned if they do. Make your own decisions about what this is all about but don't be so arrogant to think you know it all because you simply do not.

Atheists don't want there to be a God. This allows them to think of themselves as the superior being and means there's no chance they'll have to submit to anything that is not their own will.

It's just the other side of the security blanket that those with blind faith use.
This is why you find most atheists on the left, because it's just one big self-absorbed power tip to them.

I am an agnostic. If when bigfoot or jesus turns up, then I'll be all over it. Until then ...

Comedian Bill Maher's documentary RELIGULOUS is a entertaining and intelligent film which questions the principle of religion. I'd love to have a beer with Bill. Funny bugger.

Oh dear this is going to be a long post because you have compacted a wide array of stupidity into two paragraphs and a line.

Your presupposition of a god based on the fact that there had to be a beginning and that implicitly something cannot come from nothing and that therefore there had to be a creator god is a blatant logical fallacy. This is because the very god in question would therefore logically have to be created, creating an endless.......

Bit harsh mate, it took me around an hour to write that, yeah I was suggesting a need for a God that sits outside of time etc. I think in the end a contributing factor is what people want to believe not just what logic dictates. Both sides cant be true though.

Jesus has turned up. Whether he was divine or a great magician is something you must decide. Do you need him to turn up again?

Avenger, your premise is that it is impossible for the universe to come into existence without a creator or 'maker' due to complexity. It would logically follow that the 'maker' that had the ability to create such a universe would be infinitely more complex than what it created. It would therefore be impossible for that 'maker' to come about through random chance as you posit because it is to complex, therefore that maker would have to have been created, and in turn that maker would have to have been created, thereby producing an endless sequence of makers. As such, your argument defeats itself.

I think believing in a paternalistic universal overlord that is concerned with the everyday minutiae of mundane human existence is quite egocentric.

“When people ask me if a god created the universe, I tell them that the question itself makes no sense. Time didn’t exist before the big bang, so there is no time for god to make the universe in. It’s like asking directions to the edge of the earth; The Earth is a sphere; it doesn’t have an edge; so looking for it is a futile exercise. We are each free to believe what we want, and it’s my view that the simplest explanation is; there is no god. No one created our universe, and no one directs our fate. This leads me to a profound realization; There is probably no heaven, and no afterlife either. We have this one life to appreciate the grand design of the universe, and for that I am extremely grateful.”

Having a chicken or an egg argument doesn't make your argument any better either. Like I said don't be too keen in discounting the existence of a creator. Surely you are not that arrogant. The best scientists in the world cannot even explain what 'consciousness' is yet you want to to believe in a simplistic argument and accept that the universe was created in a 1 times 10 to the power of a near infinite amount of zeros.

You don't really know, I don't really know. You have your faith in a series of incredible accidents, I have my faith in creation. But please don't call it science these so called scientists have a greater leap of faith than over a billion Christians believing in the resurrection.

More probable than his theory that from dust came what we all have now. According to Hawking given the right circumstances that fart coming out of your arse could create a universe. Not today, but one day.

I am discounting the existence of a creator because there is no evidence for it. If some evidence was presented I may change my mind, however I'm not holding my breath because it doesn't seem likely that will happen.

To purport that the scientific method and a fairy tale concocted by some primitive bigots are somehow analogous is ridiculous to the extreme. There is zero evidence that the resurrection occurred because its an impossibility.

If you need to resort to ancient myths why have you chosen the Christian myth? Why not Hinduism, some Ancient Norse myths or perhaps a cargo cult?

Agree.

What I don't get is why it's so Dr Who complicated. The belief that some cosmic Jewish zombie can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

Makes perfect sense to me! :sarcasm:

Scientists have observed (and recorded with actual evidence) many more events than any of the events that are in the bible, yet you are hanging shit on them.

Having faith is fine if that is what gets you through this shitty existence but shitting on scientists because they go against a book made up of stories that have no factual evidence that the events actually occurred the way that someone wrote they occurred is actually arrogant.

So this god thing flooded the earth, wiped out places of great sin, miraculously thousands of years ago yet there are no such places like that now that it could do the same to? I could think of many to be honest. Where is it? Is has nothing else to do as it created an infinite universe but only bothered to put life on one.

Maybe it is cheating on us and has populated another planet because it realised in all it's magnificence that it could have achieved much more than pathetic humans?

As i don't know, i can't say there is no almighty powerful entity. I have seen no evidence, never witnessed anything that would have me thinking there is something higher but hey, there might be but i will not worship it and will not follow something that in my mind is imaginary until otherwise proven. That's a personal preference. Each one of us is different.

I don't accept all the stories in the bible. Like I said I do not have blind faith but I also don't accept that something came from nothing. Atheists always ask, Who created God? Maybe you already have the answer to that question—Nothing! After all, you seem to think that nothing is a powerful force for creating things. Why not God?

How the f**k did you expect them to record events during the times of Christ? The Internet ? They did through eyewitness accounts . It's called the bible. Before the dead sea scrolls were found plenty of atheists said that the accounts were not preserved and were changed etc. however their discovery proved they weren't and are almost identical to bibles written today. Whether you believe it or not is a different thing. That's up to you.

I don't ask any of those questions. I'm not even sure why it's relevant why we are here. It isn't important and makes no difference to my existence. I am here because my parents f**ked, it's pretty simple to me.

The things that are important to me are nothing to do with why we are here, purpose or any of those creation questions.

Live the best you can, support the ones you love (these do not have to be blood), treat people how you want to be treated and ensure your actions do not affect others in a negative or inconvenient way. You don't need religion or a god to live your life this way.
