you should have told the CEO just last month http://www.nrl.com/eels-confirm-watmough-interest-for-2015/tabid/10874/newsid/81950/default.aspx

While the short-term future of Watmough remains in flux, Seward stressed that re-signing skipper Jarryd Hayne, who is off contract at the end of next season, was "priority number one, two and three for our football club".

"Maybe even four and five," he said. "Most importantly, Jarryd's under contract for next year. So we're not under any threat there. We'll be doing everything to ensure Jarryd plays out his career in blue and gold. We think we're a lot closer now than what we were 12 months ago."

While the Eels boss doesn't believe rival code rugby union ? or even the NFL ? will be a major threat to keeping their franchise player, Seward said he wouldn't be afraid of asking the NRL for help.

"I think if our game is going to continue to grow, key icons like Jarryd Hayne can't even be discussed about going to other codes," he said.

"I wouldn't expect that the NRL would be helping anyone keep a player from going to another club. I would think that would be wrong. But I wouldn't like to see Jarryd playing rugby union.

"If that was a discussion, we'd certainly be talking to the NRL and I would think the NRL would be doing everything they can to keep Jarryd Hayne playing rugby league."

The cap had nothing to do with it.

I doubt that entirely. One player (Sio) would be after twice as much as the other (Vai), or maybe even for the club to match or come close to the offer from England. Yet in ability there is very little difference bar an extra years experience, and Toutai seems to be the style of player Arthur is after on the wing (strong, powerful, explosive-Kenny is none of the above and not much quicker either), but the relative cost would certainly have had a lot to do with it as well. Sio is a good winger and will do well in England, but people are massively overrating his ability and how much of a loss he is.

I like Sio, but I am not too fussed about his departure. IMO, Faraimo, Toutai, Goodall, Lavaka and Li all have more upside than Kenny.

That's a salient point - Hayne's departure would definitely have thrown a spanner in the works there.

But it's probably a blessing in disguise - I'd like Watmough at the club, but he probably wanted a three year deal, when all that would suffice is a two year deal.

Just speaking in general terms here, when would it be a perfect time to announce the Hayne departure?

Beginning of the season so our entire season is off the rails?

After Origin when we are sitting well on the ladder and looking at the run in and disrupt our run home?

Or at the end of the season when there is no league, little player movements, other codes have started?

But Burgess did it early and look at Souths?

Souths are not a one man team hence it wouldnt matter for them.
it would have been best if he could have decided early to give the coach ample time to prepare for next year

Coach hasn't complained. Team hasn't complained. Club hasn't explained.

Just more shit you've made up El D.

You got two separate issues here....1) When the club announces that JH is going and 2) When Jarryd tells the club that he's off.

Frankly, I'd be perfectly happy if the answer to both questions was 'much earlier than it actually happened'.

it's not a DT article

they'll still spin it that way even though it has direct quotes from Seward

You guys are seriously not even worth explaining anything to, but I will try just this once.

You realize clubs say things that the members and fans want to hear right? Not necessarily the truth either

Yep, to this day I still believe that Ricky is our coach. I was assured of such about this time last year.

Ah look who it is the guy that has never been wrong in his life.

I told people exactly what the club was told and understood at the time for Ricky. If you want to bring up short notice, Ricky definitely did that to the club. But it was thanks to the clause in his contract he was given.

Sorry mate....couldn't resist.

I've been wrong millions of times. But I don't respond to people who disagree with me with lines like 'LOL at everyone who thinks X'. I have no inside info, and I am not personal friends of people inside the club/team. Just call it as I see it, and I'm sure I'll get that wrong plenty of times....

All good
