JD will go well. Highly regarded and is known to be a good man manager and tactically competent. He has the respect of players and is no side kick. Price was a great water boy and Mary well say no more.

How would the dragons Be if JD coached us a few years ago. Much better I would say however JD is smart enough to know he needed more time under Bennett before he took on the job as a head coach.
I also think JD will do well at Souths.
He has been a FG coach in waiting for a long time.
He was more than ready to take the top job at St. George but the back room deal was already done with McGregor and the Illawarra stalwarts.
JD's performance with the Cutters just created a massive embarrassment for the Club because he was obviously the best choice for the job over McGregor.
What happened after that was a disgrace and we are still paying for the McGregor decision even now.
Good luck to JD.
Really enjoyed the style of footy he coached and will always remember the FG game he coached while McGregor was away against Cronulla (premiers that year) where we gave them a real touch up at Kogarah.

Probably a few of you who have been following some behind the scenes stuff closely may be wondering about DYoung getting a few coaching gig assistant jobs at various rep games. Tonga and indigenous All Stars in the off season. If you ask yourself why he keeps getting asked the answer is more or less that if he has any ambitions of coaching he has been told to get some experience elsewhere...(.ah Mary the one he once looked up to) so he via his management has put his name forward to achieve that out in the RL community) ...whoever may want to take him on.

I just wonder....me thinks he will be a long term assistant or hangerongerer at our club or another!!! to bide his time to take the No 1 job which I am sure one day the red carpet will be laid at our club... but it will not be next in line to Mary whenever that may be:nose::wink: soon..... for those panicking or expecting the old boys club to keep growing.

Bennett’s assistants have all fallen on hard times after Wayne rides off into the sunset. Henjak Price, Stone, Brown and Griffin...that’s a pretty handy lineup.

I suspect Demetriou will be no different.

Well said. JD is a coach that gets the best out of his players. Mary would have a dam clue.

😂 Jason Demetriou has managed to coach one of the highest scoring teams in the 2021 NRL into a team that couldn’t score more than 4 points against one of the spoon favourites.. just shows once an assistant coach always an assistant coach ..

With the turn over of some players (Reynolds, Su'a, Benji...) there was always going to be a transition period for them while they bring new/different players in and work out who their new best 17 is. Latrell coming back in will add something for them. Not writing them off yet either.

But I tend to disagree with the 'experts' in terms of how they all seem to kept the same 'top 5'... in no particular order being Panthers, Storm, Roosters, Souths, Eels. I think Souths are the more likely to fall out of that group for the reasons I've said above.

Agree….though Parra for me Matports; too one dimensional in attack! Thought teams worked them out last year.

Souffs did Demetriou no favours by not offering Reynolds more than a one year extension. Ilias is a bit raw, and so far the only thing I've seen from him was an arsey 20-40 kick in the Charity Shield that had the Fox Sports nuffies in the box heralding him as a future star. They were a shadow of themselves on Friday night.
It could be a long winter for Souffs. What a shame. How sad.

Losing Reynolds, Su'a and Gagai haven't help Demetriou in his first year as head coach at Souths. He is a good coach, although not winning any trials (lost to the Cowboys, then us) and losing in round 1 and facing the Storm on Thursday won't help things with his career. I've got a feeling that Souths won't be doing terrifically this year. Mitchell is a hot head and loose cannon so he could be on the sidelines a few more times this year.

Roosters - I am also not too sure about. I know it's early days but there are the signs that tells my gut that they will not be so hard to beat.

Fair assumption although the Roosters being premiers in a lot of the media's eyes also has me baffled.
I will likely be wrong as Robbo is a good coach and they still have Teddy / Keary but i see them weaker than last year as lost too much experience.
