The Eels was less about players and more about incompetence in the front office though. I heard Max Donnelly interviewed and he said Parra have had sponsors approach them(some good, some dodgy)so it's not like they are on the nose as a result.

I heard that interview too LG. they will sign up a sponsor after his job is done. Sounds like that's not far off.

Eels are back on track. Good things will follow now.

Same thing, it's about brand damage. Pretty sure no one has made an equal offer either in $'s or quality of org as previous ones otherwise they wouldn't be running around without one and coping a million $ hole in their budget.

Not exactly true PR. in fact Donnelly stated as much. They have had approaches at the right value, just the sponsor or what they stood for, wouldn't a be a good brand fit. He was suggesting they need to be careful that the sponsors brand doesn't adversely affect the brand they are trying to rebuild. Rightfully so in my opinion.

Casella made a very large offer, as have a couple of other unnamed companies that haven't met the criteria outside the money offered.

The board said no because Casella are up there with the dodgiest humans in Australia. Then Casella were caught (again) in a very dodgy position. Absolutely nothing to do with "brand damage", it was smart management (for once). Plus you are comparing a catastrophic implosion of an entire clubs front office and systematic cheating to two blokes doing a little bit of nostril snow....do you really think it's a valid comparison?

The Sharks, as well, struggled well before the peptides issue because they simply didn't have the marketing attraction that many other NRL clubs do. That will change now that they have won a competition and got their house in order seemingly, but a club with a history of cash flow issues and needing handouts from the governing body of the time isn't a great option for a sponsor regardless of "brand damage". It simply wasn't an attractive brand to begin with.

A couple of blokes potentially doing blow does as much damage to the NRL brand as a drop of arsenic in the Pacific Ocean.

It isn't a good look for the game. Absolutely agree that it is a societal problem, but a lot of people consider drug takers to be the absolute scum of society and hate them with a passion. So if it looks like a significant number of our players are part of that fairly specific group in society then it isn't a great way to win fans.

If getting your house in order means it's cool for the CEO to be doing coke (allegedly) then yeah Cronulla have their house in order.

Hadley's just had a rant about the incident, what goes through these bloke's brains, I'd say ASADA are on the hunt for them to do a random test, three incidents in 3 days, fair dinkum, bringing the game into disrepute.
It was probably a coke induced rage coming from that sanctimonious flog.

The fact parra haven't got a main sponsor is the proof that their brand damage has cost them a main sponsor! They are one of the biggest clubs in Sydney yet have no main sponsor. That will change, as it has done eventually for sharks, but you can't deny it hasn't impacted the value of their brand.

Just as these two, especially as one of them is the national capt, has damaged the kiwi brand and to a lessor degree, as let's be honest these things are so regular it is almost expected that we'll,get three or four major incidents a year, the nrl brand.

And everytime it happens you seem to take a perverse pleasure in it, Captain Positive.
