Johns Out.

Yeah just saw the contact between Johns and Wooly on NBN then...didn't look entirely bad! Though i guess some potential injuries just take a little bump to trigger them. For example Seage just running back returning the ball and his knee went...

Saw Wooly and Perry on there too! Funny to hear them talking about contracts given the comments in here lately - sounds like they are fully aware of the need to perform! Hope they do improve as they are both very handy forwards when they are at their best.

I think Storm are due for an off game, so now with Johns out they may relax even more and rest some players with niggling injuries instead of risking them.

But this is getting Ridiculous. Hopefully Johns can start stringing a few games together and find some form.

Then again who knows, it could be a plan of Smith's to rest him alot this year and let him come good for the finals if we make it that far?
you might not have noticed this, but Storm have not been playing too well, they have been winning but they every game so far has been an off game for them, I think they may be due for a good game:lol:

I fancy the Knights a lot more without Johns, because they seem to have more depth and take more options when they are not always relying on him

This situation appears to have escalated. 2GB is reporting that there is a rumour that this injury may be the end of his career. According to 2GB Johns has been to see Dr Yeo, the neck specialist who previously treated him, they (2GB) have contacted Mathew Johns for comment because David Fordham is away and he will not comment on the injury.

Johns has just been on 2GB, he has confirmed that it is a similiar injury to that he has previously suffered, he says its not as bad as it was before but they won't know till they have the CAT Scan. He has been to see YEO and its not as serious as the previous injury.

Johns says he felt pain in his legs which scared him. He is definetely out tomorrow and probably next week, he is being careful about the injury because of 2003....

Johns said he would not make any statements until after the scans but his gut feeling is it will be ok.

He also said the injury occured when he tackled Carney in the Raiders game.

Just found this...

Johns suffers another neck injury
April 6, 2007 - 6:49PM

http://www.smh.com.au/news/Sport/Johns-suffers-another-neck-injury/2007/04/06/1175366469514.html

Andrew Johns has suffered yet another injury setback, picking up a neck injury which has ruled him out of Newcastle's clash with Melbourne on Saturday and again raised doubts about his rugby league future.

The superstar halfback first injured his neck in Monday night's loss to the Raiders in Canberra before sustaining another knock in training on Thursday night.

While the 32-year-old won't know the extent of the damage until he has scans on Tuesday, it is the second time Johns has injured his neck.

He was diagnosed with a protruding disc in August, 2003 which ruled him out for the rest of that season.

Johns has consulted spinal specialist Dr John Yeo, who also helped the former Test and Origin great back in 2003, who told him he will likely have to sit out for at least a fortnight.

"It's not like the injury of four years ago," Johns told Channel Nine on Friday.

"I jarred it last week versus the Raiders and then last night training in Newcastle I had a bad collision with a couple of guys and came down today and saw Professor Yeo who pulled me out of tomorrow's game.

"I'll probably miss a couple of weeks, but I'll know more Tuesday. I'll have scans then and get the results."

Johns has had a long list of injury problems and only returned against Canberra following a serious bout of concussion sustained in the opening minutes of the Knights' round one win over the Bulldogs.

But he insisted it was too soon to speculate on his playing future.

"I think that's a bit premature. Obviously there's going to be some hysteria over this, but I'll wait till I get the scans back and I'll know more then," he said.

"I'm confident I'll be back on the field.

"I've got no pins and needles or pain in my arm, like last time.

"But I knew it was more than just a knock so I've come down here to see Professor Yeo and he wants to be totally sure and get a cat scan.

"So he pulled me out, which is disappointing I was desperate to play tomorrow night, but I'm in good hands with the doctor."

ahh interesting!!

i found it funny that Abes Wooly and Perry had a good laugh wen he started yellin..his body is just not tacking it anymore..hopefully he can get through the year..just for the sake of..'he having a chance to go out the winner he deserves' cause he does..great player like him deserves that sorta finish!!
Unfortuantly his ego has sky-rocketed in past couple years...it is a bit weird..but most stars ge that sorta head...just remember him for his performances on the footy field..thats all us knights have to remember him for..not his cockyness..and ego...leave that thinking..to every other fan in the competition who are jealous!!

PS: Bring on the Buderus/Mullen/Kidley show, should be good to watch but by no means am I expecting us to go better now or even win for that matter. Always enjoy the chance to see the other guys strut their stuff, Rd 1 & 2 were quite enjoyable :D

Sounds like it is a lot more serious then first thought. Though career ending speculation always hangs around Johns whenever he gets injured.

I just got a very bad gut feeling about this though.

Watching Goulds,s quick interview with Matty Johns just now at half time in Fridee night football, and reading Matty,s body language, will there be an announcement regarding Joeys Retirement tomorrow at the game.

Could have been all five grades..... oh well. Our young boys will get a run at EAS come finals in a few weeks.

My 2c, Losing Johns for this game, is not a huge issue. I think the players stood back and expected to win cos Johns was there. I hope we see the same team we saw in rounds 1 and 2.

I think Joey rushed back from his concussion, no doubt it caused some muscle injury to his neck, he then twinged it in the game, and then again at training. Roopy, you know I appreciate and respect all your comments, but come on. You dont play Footy for a living, and havent (that I know of) had an existing neck injury.

I would truly hate to see Joey retire mid way through the year, and it would be an even bigger shame if he were to finish with 249 games for this great club.

In the end, Joey needs to look after himself. He has a young family, what good is he if he suffers serious injuries to his neck.

Unfortunately we have to take our Red and Blue jumpers off and realise that this goes beyond the game. This will affect his quality of life.

Hmm sounds pretty bad. He'll most likely be out for 5 weeks easy.

Surely this will definitely be his last year now, if he can even finish it.

Anyone think the SBW hit has stuffed his neck a bit more? When I watched the shot I thought he got him straight on the neck.

Anyway I hope he can recover and win us a premiership this year.

I'm really excited about seeing us without Johns though.

I guess we'll be left waiting for some news after he's had the CAT scan on Tuesday.

Would be tragic to see him forced to hang up the boots through injury rather than from a decision made for his own reasons.

Despite his off-field antics and regardless of an impeding decisions I hope I always remember Andrew Johns for the displays of magic he produced on the field as part of the team and club I love.

Personally i think everyone around him will want him to retire, the club itself may even hint to him that would be the right thing to do for himself.

But we all know Joey - he won't want to finish his career this way. A 30 point thrashing vs Canberra and stranded on 249 games.

I think he has a very tough decision, but i believe he will take the time required off for the neck to heal and then return to give him and all of us fans one last tilt at a Johns led premiership.

Either way, i'll support and respect him for whatever decision he makes.

I'm finding it interesting that we're all saying how we're looking forward to seeing the boys play without Joey this week. Last year I would've been a bit riled that we're not overly stressed about his injury - but after going to the Raiders game last week I made some comment about feeling like we'd played better the week before without him.
Like everyone else, if Joey has to retire because of this then it's sad and we'll miss him a lot (wasn't it meant to be his 250th game this weekend?) but it's nice to know there's players like Kidley and Mullen coming through to fill those big shoes.

He will retire. The look on Mattys face told it all he is a goner and so is the premiership for a long time.

And as for all you idiots who want him gone try and remember how bloody good the bloke is for crying out loud your all dead set donkeys. His the greatest player Newcastle has ever seen and there is no deabte about that and you want him gone to England, hold your head in shame or actually watch a game where Andrew Johns played in.

I'm not sure how he can continue to play with a bad neck. It isn't like he can get through a game without making a tackle or running to the line.
