Finch WTF?
it wouldn't surprise me.

there's stories that the roosters want soward to play 7 and want finch gone.

if we play daily telegraph connect the dots it would make sense that hagan brings finch in as the two worked together at canberra.

i wouldn't mind seeing finch and tim smith play in our halves if morris goes.

Moran I also said has had a bad year, but prior to Wigan & every year since he left here, he had been killing it over there. Good players don't turn to sh*t in that short a time even if the team is up to sh*t. Thats like saying McKinnon, Morris or Morrison would be bad buys because they play for Parramatta.

Moran was playing well because he played fullback and was just doing what McGuire does and that's supporting well.

And sorry but I have to say it, you don't watch the games do you? It seems like you read the scoresheet and judge by that, McGuire would never cut it in the NRL as a halfback, and Sinfield wouldn't cut it as a five-eighth, it isn't an opinion it's pretty much fact.

But that's your team and you have every right to name it.

Apart from being a very sh*t player he's a bogan and a loser i don't want in any eels team. Also, as if we don't have enough scapegotas already, you want another one.

I watch enough to like what I see. Moran at the Broncos was awesome in the halves & no I don't just read the scoresheet. I'm looking at them in relation to who I see as being best suited to our team.

I've coached myself for the last 15 years (with fair success I might add) & have had to pick sides every week. Guess what sunshine, it's not always the best players that make up the best teams. I'm naming those guys for what I see in their games & what I perceive our needs to be.

With the Warriors' exit door about to swing open again at the end of the season, the talk in Sydney suggests Parramatta fullback Wade McKinnon will replace Brent Webb in 2007 in a three-year deal worth about $200,000 a season.

The club yesterday re-signed Evarn Tuimavave for another three years, with the prop turning down more lucrative deals in the UK and Australia to stay in Auckland.

The only thing i'm pretty certain of for next year is that our back 5 will very likely be...

1. Hayne
2. Grothe
3. B. Smith
4. Tahu
5. Inu/Williams

From what I've seen of Inu in the lower grades, everything suggests he'll be every bit as good as Hayne if not even better and could form a very lethal combination with Tahu.

If we can get a forward pack to dominate (need to sign at least one quality prop & one quality 2nd rower), this backline will do alot of damage.

Looking at our off-contract players and losses I estimate we will free up approx $1.5 million if none of those players are re-signed.

That's alot of $$$ to spend come June 30.

Potentially we could sign 5 quality players at around $300k each :-k

Or say, 3 top class players @ $350k each and another 2-3 solid first graders at around 150-200k each \\\\:D/

It looks good but remember there are upgrades that have to be taken into consideration as well as on-going contracts that may have increased as they progress. While it may look like that is what we have we may be closer to $1 million which is still substantial. ;-)

Yeah that's probably about right Colonel. Still not a bad shopping budget to have aye :p

Actually when I worked out that amount I forgot to inlcude Glenn Morrison's contract (who isn't listed above in our 'losses') which I beleive is worth about $300k so yeah we definitely have some cash to go shopping.

Yes we need to upgrade some contracts.

I would give them all an upgrade for the excellent way they have been performing this season.

The upgrades will be to the likes of Inu, Hayne, Tony Williams and possibly John Williams and other youngsters who are coming up and would be on next to nix at the present moment. Some of these players will be counted amongst the Top 25 next season. ;-)

I’m bored, time to work out a shopping budget….

Off Contract
Wade McKinnon - $150k
Aaron Cannings - $200k
John Morris - $200k
Luke Burt - $150k
Brett Delaney - $50k
Henry Perenara - $65k
Adam Peek - $100k
Jack Afamasaga - $50k
Jamie Lyon - $0
Dean Widders - $150k

Losses
Glenn Morrison (UK) - $300k
Paul Stringer (retired) – $185k
Matthew Petersen (Titans) - $85k
Luke O'Dwyer (Titans) - $50k

Assuming we do not re-sign any of our off-contract players we potentially could free up approx $1.7 million come June 30.

Of the players above who are off-contract the only one I think that might remain with us is John Morris.

There are plenty of good players available come June 30 and I think the pick of the lot are as follows…

Forwards
Nate Myles (dogs)
Roy Asotasi (dogs)
Ben Creagh (saints)
Ashton Sims (saints)
Justin Poore (saints)
Michael Henderson (saints)
Mark Minichiello (souths)
Lance Thompson (sharks)
Craig Stapleton (panthers)
Dallas Johnson (storm)
Antonio Kaufusi (storm)

Backs
Scott Hill (storm)
Steve Turner (storm)
Jake Webster (storm)
Clint Greenshields (saints)
Colin Best (saints)
Phil Graham (raiders)
Luke McDougall (souths)

Also, Craig Wing is rumoured to be wanting out of the Roosters (although still under contract) and Steve Simpson apparently has some type of get-out clause in his contract.

Assuming we need about $400k to upgrade existing contracts (Hayne, Inu, Grothe for making Origin, young players coming through etc…), let’s then say we have approx $1.3 million big ones to spend come June 30.

Who would you buy and how much would you offer?

I know you can't believe everything you read but apparently Souths offer to Asotasi is around 425k a season. I would believe it to be closer to between 350 and 400

Do people think he is worth that much as I certainly do. The only thing is it might annoy some of our more senior player especially say Hindy who may not be on as much.

I have also heard that Steve Simpson is a VERY good chance of signing with us and that Selmes guy from Cronulla is also as good as locked up. Havent seen Selmes play though myself

Asotasi isn't worth more that 250-300. That's a max a front rower sshould get. Souths have o pay overs to attract top talent.

Fair enough Jake but a couple of points.

With the salary cap going up and the lack of quality front rowers on the market I think Asotasi can name his price. I have watched him fairly closely this year and think he is one of the top 3 yardage props in the game.

About Souths paying overs, we may have to start paying overs as well soon

Also Jake you keep an eye on young talent. Have you seen Selmes play

I wouldn't be paying that much for Asotasi.

Let Souths, Roosters & Titans have the bidding war for Asotasi & Poore.

Personally I'd be looking at Nate Myles & Ashton Sims. Both young and very talented and can play prop or 2nd row at a pinch.
