Yeah no doubt, congrats on being ranked number 1. You guys will probably keep that ranking with a win this Sunday and we'll win the important one in a months or so time.

Peace.

Not sure if beating Wales counts as important. :sarcasm:

Being ranked number 1 is a nice in all sports but it means f**k all really.
Here are some examples:
Ivan Lendl was ranked number one but never won the one trophy he coveted, Wimbledon.
Greg Norman was ranked number one for god knows how long but never won the trophy he wanted, the US masters. I'd guarantee that both would trade in their weeks at number 1 for those trophies.

As an Australian I don't give a flying f**k about being ranked number one in league. I want to be the best and that means winning the world cup and 4 nations.

PS. We still hold the rugby league ashes, a series I'd love to see back.

Lol, merely correcting the false assertion that the Australian Trophy cabinet is "pitiful"

...and currently ranked second to Australia.

Ahh good old Grimey. Can always rely on you to hold onto to the past in preference to the present...

You are thinking about it wrongly, going by a strictly rankings view.

an NRL version would be the minor premiership, Don't have to win any games in the first ten rounds to win the premiership but if you want to win the minor premiership you have to win most of them.

But until NZ beat Australia more times then not they won't be RANKED 1.

I'm not denying that NZ are the World Champions.

I'm fairly sure I know which I'd prefer to be. World Champs thanks for coming.

i think even though new zealand are winning the cups and finals games, i believe they just want to compete regularly. i mean the wallabies are similar they got hammered in the tri nations then come the deciding game they won it. the wallabies have a 96 - 41 win loss record to the all blacks so its kind of a mirror image of the kiwis win loss record to the kangaroos.

Its just that the wallabies play the all blacks more often and they can keep it close.

The kiwis need to keep it close and even need to dominate periods of the game to gauge where they are, we know they can, theyve shown they can crack the roos in a few matches (08, 09 draw, 2010 final) if they keep it tight. I mean they had the game for the taking in this years anzac test around the 55th minute mark but just things fell apart but i believe thats the sign of a good competitive future.

On depth, the kiwis have good 2nd tier depth in all positions now. not saying theres heaps of guys underneath waiting if a guy get injured but theris at least 2 or 3 that can do the job, in terms of third tier its probably not their but i think that the season has been a bit too long and i see where the boys are coming from pulling out but at the same time if your really patriotic about your country and serving it you wouldnt giveup the chance for anything.

I like the fact kearney has gone for loyalty, he wants the guys who have experience but also have tasted the joy of beating the best team in the world.

chuck in the all blacks too. have been number 1 ranked team in the world longer than all other team combined but havent won't the wc in 24 years.

as a kiwi i'd take a couple more world cups over being ranked number 1 any day of the week.

:lol:I don't want to change your mind, but I seriously hope you have the ability to understand the irony of your statement.

Hanging your status on a game you won nearly a year ago and another nearly three years ago is clearly not holding onto the past in preference to the present (ie your most recent match and current ranking) right?

Not entirely sure how a team holding both current major trophies and losing a one off, poorly timed, irrelevant game mid-season can possibly be comparable to a team made up of a completely different set of players from a different time in a different era.. But to each their own; whatever makes you feel better I s'pose.

Be honest for a second, which side of the coin would you rather be on? Would you rather lose the less important games and win the ones which count (note: i'm talking about CURRENT trophies, not past trophies) or would you rather the opposite? Dominance in the games which hold little to no value (not just an opinion, be serious) and defeat in the games which matter?

Go back through my posts, and show me anywhere I've stated that I'd prefer to be ranked 1 and not hold the current trophies. I merely take issue with the statements such as "The Aussie Trophy Cabinet is pitiful" or "NZ are the greatest", despite not being able to consistently beat Australia. I don't think either team holds dominance at the moment.

you can't qualify your depth til they actually play a test....and when they get outclassed by a weakend australian side you stop having depth and just have players there to make up the squad......

so lets see them keep within 20 of this australia outfit....i bet they won't

BOOM!

and the game ain't even over yet

I love the excuses that are made.
Honestly, it's not a matter of which you would prefer, it's not like the Aussies won't be getting the trophey back, because we will.
Why? Because we're consistently better, as in we don't win a couple of tournaments and then look like an U20s team in test matches.
