He will come as a $400k per year player and leave as a $100k per year player. The Drunk one will ruin him.

You are better than that mate.

Im not saying Mary is the answer, but the continual reference to his DUI, is over the top.
I am on the record some weeks back suggesting that Mary's time may be up, but the constant barrage on what was a bad mistake of judgement, is too much.

As to Keary, I dont know if he's worth 3-4-500k, as he has played limited minutes of late.

Yes yes you are right as a man I won't criticise him personally anymore but as the coach of the Dragons? Mate sorry I will, he cannot be taken seriously by the players nor the fans , a mistake of judgement has zero tolerance when you hold a position like he does, dropping the ball cost Hayne a 49ers contract, at the Dragons what will it take to get sacked ?

Years ago I heard Steve Linnane was sent packing for throwing a jersey in the sheds....how times have changed.

No need for apology mate, and yes I am with you... Its NOT good enough bro. I get your anger, and I am also on record saying the " status quo " is not good enough for this great Club.

Funnily , I was against his Initial appointment, then I was for it, and now I have severe doubts.

To me , he has a short period to prove his worth or else we need someone else asap. Its not the 6-6 record we have... its our inability to score points.

And the thing is I too wanted him to succeed as a former elite player I was convinced he could do a better job than Price...but both seem to be breaking unwanted records lol.

We are from from being a great club like we once were. :(

That is it in a nutshell.... its our inability to score points . Tru the game has changed you have to be able to score points to get your self out of trouble , we cant .Yea we might win a few games when we grind out a win and everything goes our way but gee its a hard way to play week in and week out . Teams are able to score back to back tries to get them back in with a chance we struggle . Most teams will beat us if they go 12 points in front and it has been like this for 6 years and counting... Anyway lets hope things change all round...:(

No argument from me, Mary is on the precipice... however I think we will benefit more from this origin period than any other club:

o Rests for several players with niggling injuries, strapped legs etc
o 0-2 dragons players actually in origin so minimal involvement
o The bye rounds with a fit Benji & Widdop are solid gold.. they know what they need to fix now.. they will be doing it with Flo @1 which wasnt the idea, but it might just work out better than we expected..

This hating on McGregor for an extremely low range PCA is a complete joke. By ball means express your dissatisfaction with him as a coach, but please leave this personal garbage out of it, unless you be without sin yourself.

Half chances for Dragons

BENJI Marshall or Luke Keary?
Think about it. Who would you rather have?
An experienced, injury-hampered veteran who still possesses some of the old magic, or a scorned young talent with everything to prove?
Before you make the choice, consider the circumstances around him.
Gareth Widdop is starting to feel comfortable as Dragons captain after a slow start to the season.
Josh McCrone is at the very least a steady fallback option, while Drew Hutchison appears to have been removed from the NRL selection discussion entirely.
Both Widdop and McCrone are contracted for next season.
Still, before locking in a player for next year, lift your eyes and consider what might become available.
Jack Bird comes off contract again in 2017 after signing a one-year extension with the Sharks.
So impressive has Bird been in the centres for Cronulla, he’s squarely in the frame for NSW State of Origin selection.
What position would the Berkeley junior play if he returned to St George Illawarra in 2018? Does it make you more likely to sign Keary now, or keep Marshall for another season before throwing the kitchen sink at Bird?
There’s already a groundswell of support from the Illawarra end of the joint venture to have Bird return to the Dragons, given the club has lost a number of top juniors in recent times.
Keeping Marshall and signing Keary seems highly unlikely, unless there was genuine concern Widdop would leave, as was speculated last year.
Keary has already had to slash his asking price, given his on-field form and the fallout with South Sydney owner Russell Crowe.

So now the Dragons consider a three-year $1.2 million deal, as they weigh up what to do about Marshall.
The coming days become crucial for Benji’s future, as well as St George Illawarra’s finals hopes. Away trips to struggling Manly and Newcastle follow a Wollongong date with Melbourne – missing their Origin stars – and Monday afternoon’s showdown against the Dogs.
Given Canterbury’s patchy – albeit at times explosive form – the Dragons have a real chance to setup their season before their second bye in round 18. Equally important is how long Paul McGregor, Ian Millward and Peter Doust are willing to entertain Marshall’s future in the red V.
It was only three months ago Marshall’s veteran manager Martin Tauber declared the 2005 premiership winner still had three years left in him. Coming up with a strategic direction about a playmaker is made more urgent because of the Dragons’ inability to score points.
Fans are edgy about where the tries are coming from, as much as the mantra remains about their platform being built around defence. Still, the tension will be eased if the Dragons win three of their next four games and Marshall is impressive.
The X-factor in St George Illawarra’s plans could be young North Queensland fullback or halves option Jahrome Hughes, who played in the 14-10 loss to the Dragons in Wollongong last month.
Hughes is likely to be squeezed out as the premiers restructure their salary cap after winning their first title last year. The 21-year-old is highly rated and could finally be the solution to McGregor’s plans to move Josh Dugan to the centres.

Keary could play half. Widdop 5/8. Bird fullback. Dugan Centre (or visa versa). Or hold Benji for 1 year and sign bird to play halves.

Tim Barrow's article in the Mercury says it all . However ,I want the Dragons to compete for the 2017 season Grand Final trophy not wait out that season in the hope that Jack Bird returns home the following year . I hope that common sense prevails and the Dragons hierarchy do up the offer to Keary to ensure his signature for the next 3 years. With all due respect to Benji - his better days are behind him , and those niggeling injuries are only going to get worse with age .

Short-term focus for Marshall

MITCH JENNINGS

IN the rough and tumble world of rugby league, it’s hard to imagine a niggling hamstring complaint falling into the ‘career-threatening injury’ category.

However, by circumstances largely out of his control, that’s the situation Dragons halfback Benji Marshall finds himself in at the midpoint of the 2016 season.

Questions about his future that seemed premature in the preseason grow more poignant with each passing week. To his credit, Marshall has never bristled at them, saying he wants to let his football do the talking.

That task has been made difficult by the hamstring injury that’s seen him miss six of the Dragons 12 games.
It’s unlikely those questions will be answered this week – or in the next few – and coach Paul McGregor said Marshall’s focus remains on stringing some games together starting with Monday’s clash with Canterbury.
“Unfortunately for everyone, me included, Benji hasn’t been able to play consecutive weeks and for halfback that makes it very very hard to get your timing right,” McGregor said.
“When he’s played he’s played well but you want your marquee player and the player that you look for when it’s close to be out there regularly.

“It’s hard especially when your spine’s not together. I think every coach wants there spine together week to week. At this time last year we were top of the competition and our spine hadn’t missed a game.

“He's just really keen to string a few games together because, as a club, when he’s on the field, we’re a much better footy team.”

McGregor said he and Marshall have kept an open dialogue throughout the season but admitted it’s been hard to properly gauge the 31-year-old’s form with view to a new deal given his limited time on the paddock.

“Me and Benji are always open in our discussions and as a coach and a senior player at a club you have to have that,” McGregor said.

“Otherwise it’s up to his management and our recruitment and retention guys to look after it. He just wants to get out there and play some regular footy and I’m keen for him to do that because we’re a much better footy team when he does.”
McGregor wouldn’t be drawn on links to Luke Keary after Fairfax Media reported on Friday that club officials met to discuss offering the out of favour Rabbitohs half a potential three-year deal.
“We’ve been linked to nearly every player coming off contract,” McGregor said.
“Managers do the work for the players and I’ve got recruitment and retention managers who work for the club.

“I’m here to coach the 2016 side and then whatever happens at the end of this year I’ll coach the 2017 side.”

Yeh you are right, my real beef with him is he is a Steeler, and brought that win f**k all culture to our JV.

I know its a sin to be critical of Dugan, but id rather Aitken at right ctr, hes significantly cheaper, knows the role and has his future ahead of him.

Fullback is doing my head in, the question is whether we can get enough x-factor in our 6/7/9 to make up for Duges short-comings @fullback, but its frustrating that we need to be having this discussion about our 1 marquee player.

Thats the whole problem.

Dugan and his lack of passing would be fine if we had functioning halves and a good hooker. He would more than make up for it with his running game and defence.

But we can't carry a hooker and fullback who are poor passers, no recognised half, and no speed. Most teams would be able to deal with one of these issues, but not all of them.

Or a game plan which plays to his strengths of power running. Dugan chiming into the line on an angled run at full pace, with a decoy runner from 15m out and he wouldn't need to pass too often. He would be very hard to stop.
