Keeping Count of RLWC tickets purchased

One things for sure, we're going to find out pretty soon if this PAX stuff is true or a load of nonesense. I think personally that it does have some bearing but I'm sceptical as to whether over 40,000 have been sold for the opening ceremony. I reckon its because of the numbers of tickets being sold from other avenues that might not all have gone. This is why it would be different that usual. I just think 3 days before the game, if it was at 41,000 the media would have said something.

Its probable more accurate on the other games and if so 11700 is good for PNG in my opinion. Should ensure around 15,000 which to put in perspective is not far off the semi-final attendance of the England game in England in 2000.

This world cup looks set to be a step in the right direction before a balls been kicked.

more info on PAX

PAX go up every time a ticketek is printed, therefore if there are cancellations or mis printed tickets those PAX numbers have already been used for that barcode and new ones need to generated. This also includes comp tickets given away.

So while not accurate still gives some indication of how tickets are selling.

comp tickets for a game such as the wc opener are those given to sponsors, players, arl, rlif stakeholders etc... these are usually used and counted in your attendance figure at a game like this

Lets just hope that the tickets floating around out there to be used as freebies get to the game.

WOuld be frustrating to be there knowing that there were tickets sitting on an empty shelf.

Ok with all of Yakstorm's updates here is an outdated list of all tickets sold:

England v PNG - 3,000
Scotland v France - 4,000
Australia v NZ – 34,000
Tonga v Ireland – 5,000
Samoa v Tonga – 6,000
Fiji v France – 4,800
New Zealand v PNG - 4,200
Scotland v Fiji – 5,100
Ireland v Samoa - 3,100
England v NZ - 7,800
Australia v England 32,000
PNG v Australia - 8,000

Penrith Final - 900
Rockhampton Final - 4,500
Semi-final Qualifier Pool – 9,400
Semi Final (Brisbane) - 22,000
Semi Final (Sydney) – 11,000
FINAL – 44,000

Dont forget some of these ticket sales are at nearly 3 weeks old while a couple are a week old. So at the moment going off these numbers the average crowd is : 11,600

I have read elsewhere that the PNG vs England match is up to 12,000 and the Aus vs NZ match is up to 40,000 but that is not confirmed so i have not updated the list.

Already beat the 2000 RLWC average of 8,123

I believe there will be fairly good walk up numbers in the smaller matches subject to good weather. I heard that they are expecting around 15 000 fro England V PNG

Just for comparison, 3 (nothing) games in the 2003 RUWC were played at Dairy Farmers.

Scotland 32–11 Japan Attendance: 19,170

France 51 – 29 Japan Attendance: 21,309

Fiji 41 – 13 Japan Attendance: 17,269

Really, surely 18,000 would have to be considered a minimum for Eng v PNG.

I'd be pretty disapointed if we don't match those crowds, given the much hyped awesomeness of QLD crowds. Its Sydney that are too lazy to support League remember?

Speaking of freebies. Rebel Sport in Belconnen, ACT has a deal going where if you purchase any WC jersey you get 6 tickets to Scot v France free.

Hopefully this is a sign that there is being a concerted effort across the board to boost the attendances for the tournament's lesser matches, and not a sign of a mad rush to push sluggish sales.

Either way, I hope it helps get the crowd number up.

If you head in there, you may be disappointed, only Auz, NZ, Eng and Scot jerseys for sale, but I have to say it looks like the Scottish ones have really flown out the door - pity no French still!

The games will be awesome. People have to remember that we are our own sport. We are not Rugby Union or Soccer . I like our WC concept and we should not be drawing similarities between each. I didn't hear people taking the piss out of the Netball WC tournament or the Aussie rules clash with Ireland.

We are our on entity and we should be proud. It doesn't matter if we get 10k a game and another sport gets 25k . As long as the games are competitive and the games are a spectacle.
