So it's good enough for Gids, but not good enough for Rogers...

I would suggest we would not have beaten Manly, Warriors or the Dragons with Dureau at 7 and Rogers not playing. That is with Mullen and Gidley in the team.

I get frustrated with Rogers as much as anyone. The reality is that we are stuck with a very good fullback, 5/8 and hooker but we don't have a decent halfback. If we have to live with a stop gap measure at this stage I'll go with Rogers over Dureau - Rogers will win us a game, Dureau won't.

so those time he kicked us those field goals isnt Dureau winning us games?
didnt he do it like three times? or at least twice last yr?

I'm sorry...forgot that we had the option of Ben Rogers then. Forgot we had absolutely any other option then.

Any way...how about this year we win games by more than one point?

Dear Brian,

We would just like to apologise for all the hurt and torment we have caused you over the years. We would like to admit that we were wrong about you. We would like to say that you are one of the best league coaches going round and that your ability to spot and develop talent is simply unique. To ignore the criticisms of all and sundry while you were stripping the dead wood from the Knights playing ranks and putting together a competitive team and long term plan has been admirable. Your game plans are pretty much Spot On week by week. The attacking style of football your team is playing is simply wondeful to watch. Keep up the good work!

im just pointing out taht dureau has won us games in the past
so to say that rogers will win us games and dureau wont is an incorrect assumption based on his past record

I never said that Rogers WILL win games for us. I said that he'll back himself and have a go at the big play rather than sitting back and letting things happen.

It'll be a sad day when we start picking players based on their dropgoal ability.

One is a border-line first grader, the other is a SOO candidate in the position. Just because the #6 might suit Mullo best doesn't mean he isn't a better halfback than Dureau. Are you seriously suggesting that if you had Wally Lewis as your 5/8th and Mullo and Dureau in your squad, Mullo would miss out?

No, Mullo wouldnt miss out. But neither Rogers or Dureau are anywhere near the quality of Wally Lewis. You missed the point. I said that Mullo is a good enough footballer to play as first receiver to leave Rogers outside him, but it is not our best option. There are times when it is, as I mentioned before, but for the bulk of our games I would prefer to let Dureau control the game and have Mullo attack the edges.

If you have a halfback the style of Dureau in the side it limits the amount of "work" Mullo has to do. He can stay 2 passes wide and look for that tired defender, or overlap, tuck the ball under his arm and go at the line or set up one of those nice chip kicks for Uate or Vuna.

At the moment Mullo is organising the forwards and doing all of the kicking. We are missing the best part of his game to accomodate Rogers' game IMO.

I am certainly happy we won, and I accept that Rogers was the best choice for this game, but I dont think the Rogers/Mullen combo is the best available.

That sure is dreaming.

This is much more likely:

Dear Knights,

I am a huge fan of the KNIGHTS, and ever since Brian Smith came along my favourite players have stopped playing for us. Why has he WRECKED our team? I used to love watching Klint New Town and now we have players like Junyor Sow who isn't as good to watch because he is really short. I know we won on Saturday. But I think Brian Smith is going to get the Knights into the grand final and then LOSE. Because he always loses grand finals and that will break my heart. I reckon you should sack Brian Smith and get a coach who knows how to WIN a grand final like our old coach Mikeal Haygone or maybe Kris Andyson.

Very well said and I agree with ya. It's basically a situation of strengthening one position to weaken another

Ha! Very good BG! What was the Singo headline in the Tele last year? Something about Brian stuffing everything up and costing him a motza some how? I thought Singo was good at spotting winners.

I didn't miss the point, Tim. My hypothetical was intended solely in the context of the small section of your previous post which I highlighted:

"halfback Dureau>Mullen"

What you might have meant is Dureau/Mullen > Mullen/Rogers; and while I don't agree, of course I accept that it's vital to consider the effect strengthening one position has on the other and that the most important issue is which combination is the most potent overall.

Finally someone explains it a whole lot better than my good self. That's what I've been trying to say all along

Mullo is SOOOOOOOO not a half back. He is a gun player playing out of position. He was creating things out on the edges but just doesnt have it in him to direct the forwards. Not that Faas needs any directing I might add that guy is amazing!

Rogers is meh. Seroiusly like he has done well the last couple of weeks and I doubt BSmith will change him but we need a half like Duearu in our side inside of Mullo. Mullo strives when on the fringes and we need someone to spread the ball to him. Rogers is meh=okay. Nothing special what I am saying is that Duearu/Mullen can be something really special.

Sau really needs to learn how to draw and pass. That break Mullo half made and flicked him the ball was amazing, if Sau just drew and passed for Lulia to run to the line it could have been of the tries of the year!

Dear Herald
I'm a diehard Knights fan who has supported the club through thick and thin who doesn't attend games, buy merchendise or have an interest in the players. I do however have the right to complain about absolutly everything in regards to the club, the prices are too high, too many blackies, no Joey, Brian Smith is bad man and low quality soccer is more entertaining no injuries and if they draw nobody's feelings get hurt.

Sandow has been missing more tackles than just about our whole team combined this season and looks awful in attack.

Orford... well it's embarrassing he won the best player in the comp last year.

Robson? Bahahahahahaha

As much as I'm a genuine fan of Barrett the sharks halves deadset couldn't organise a fight a in a bulldogs crowd.

Thurston & Lockyer have been playing like absolute busted's this year.

Herbert. If he is a first grade halfback then Scott Dureau is a love child of Wally Lewis, Andrew Johns and Peter Sterling.

The halves this year all round have been sub par except Kimmorley and Scott Prince.

And what he did last year is an indication of how he is going this year?

Incidentally, orford was easily in the top 5 players last seaso, it was hardly embarrassing that he won it.

Yeah, lets just change a winning combo!

I agree Karma this Scotty love is quite astonishing as far as I am concerned, Scotty can pull out the big boot once in a while but as far as I am concerned his a one trick pony, zero running game and a medicore passing game...........

Rogers on the other hand well the results are speaking for themselves though most people were prepared to throw him on the bon fire for a brain snap.......

Ah well thats what forums are for a bit of good ole bantering and arguing!
