This season Man Utd, City and Chelsea all have a real chance at winning. Liverpool and Arsenal long shots but will be competing for top 4 at the least.

Money definately does seperate the top teams from the mid-lower table but imo the premier league isn't such a forgone conclusion as La Liga where its garunteed Barcelona and Real Madrid are going to be at least 15 points clear of all other teams at the end.

Spurs never spent big to get into the CL

Our highest paid player was Modric and he was on €65K a week and he only cost us €15 million.

Our transfers are around €10-12 million where as Citeh pay around €200K a week even for players that are out on loan (Adebeyor) and also pay ridiculous transfer fees.

They have basically bought our spot and spent hundreds of millions in doing so.

Arsenal will struggle to qualify for the Europa League. It remains to be seen what Liverpool will do, more than likely scrape 4th at best, but even then they splashed the cash on a few players.

Only 3 teams can genuinely win the league and two of them spent shit loads to get their squad, same deal as Spain.

Yeah, Spurs spent moderately

07/08 - €24m for Darren Bent, €14m for Bale, €13m for Hutton
08/09 - €22m for Bentley, €21m for Modric, €17m for Pavlyuchenko, €16m for Keane, €16m for Defoe, €15m for Palacios, €13m for Corluka

those figures are absolute rubbish

Bent and Modric are the only 2 over 10 mill and Bentley only ended up costing us 4mill as he never even played 3 games in his first season and there was a clause in his contract where we only ended up paying 4mill as a result

Hutton, lol, he cost about 4 million

believe them at your own peril

smh

Tottenham Hotspur plc is pleased to announce that agreement has been reached with Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatian international midfielder, Luka Modric, age 22 years, for the transfer of his registration to Tottenham Hotspur FC for a total consideration of Euro21 million payable in instalments over the next four years. The player's contract is for a period of up to six years and the agreement is conditional upon the granting of a work permit.

Bullshit. Man U, Chel$ki and Arsenal have made up 3 of the top 4 for about 8 or 9 years.

The EPL has a gap in talent just like La Liga, the only real difference is 3rd and 4th. They had similar relegation battles and Deportivo would have been safe in the EPL with their points haul. Team like Chel$ki, City, Aston Villa, Tottenham have proven that to win or even sneak in to the top 4 or atleast attempt it you have to spend shit loads on players, a luxury that most La Liga clubs are not afforded. When was the last time a La Liga team finished with only 11 or 19 points in a season?

Money separates the teams in both leagues.

Money seperates teams in all leagues. There has always being dominant teams in all leagues at all times. Name one league where money doesn't make a difference or one of 20 teams could win it?

In the prem, the middle teams are better which makes a more competitive game. In my opinion of course.

At least United, City etc. are not forcing smaller clubs out of business with a stupid tv deal though.

That's correct. City certainly have robbed another team of a legitimate spot in Europe though and the chance of survival money.

Money makes a difference obviously but nowhere near the extent that it does in Spain or England.

It's not socialism and some teams can make money legitimately, like Man U, but when teams have foreign owners pumping absurd amounts of money in to clubs or you have the Spanish monopoly then something is wrong. Both leagues have a terrible gap that needs to be bridged though.

Tbh I put the blame squarely at UEFA and the champions league which is becoming the bigger prize than domestic leagues.

That is a huge problem in football at the mo. More so in the small leagues. Scotland got like it did by Rangers and Celtic getting euro money. The eastern block leagues are dominated by one or two clubs who get the Euro money.

If Uefa wanted to spread the wealth better, they should reduce the winnings by a factor of 10 (so 10 million becomes one million) and the left over cash is seperated by some formula and given to the countries FA which is then handed down to the clubs. That way the money is spread through leagues and clubs and the gap between the champs league teams and those just missing them (i.e. 4th and 5th in England) isn't that great.

You will still have the problems of sugar daddies, but its going to be hard to stop that, maybe the FFP will help, maybe it won't. Guess we will have to wait on that one.

The frustrating thing as far as Spain is concerned is that there problem is easy to cure. All it needs is the Spanish FA to stand up to Barca and Real over TV money.

Wow! Real Sociedad 2-2 Barcelona. Barca were up 2 zip at the break. I would have loved to see the live betting odds at halftime!

Also, Real Madrid 1-1 Getafe in the 44th. Good to see neither team is invincible...
