 So Messi only scores against good teams, hypocrite?
Ronaldo 36, Messi 31.
stop putting words in my mouth, Messi scores against mediocre teams too but you must have missed it when he tore Real a new one at the Bernabau this year and last, when he tore them a new one at the Camp Nou, was Ronaldo even playing those games?
Its all good, Ronaldo can have his little Pichichi and Copa Del Rey, Messi will be more than happy with a La Liga title, CL title and a 3rd straight ballon d'or
Besides I'd be shocked if Ronaldo wasn't top scorer, he takes twice as many shots and has half as many assists

guys, the thread is 'La Liga', stop ruining it. Go have your 'italy vs germany' battles elsewhere!

Alright then, because you think 'big games' only equates to the Clasico, you only need look at his ManU career. In only what, his fifth season at the club, he broke the all-time scoring record in the Premier League for a midfielder, at the age of 23, ahead of the the previous holder George Best. There's no question the EPL has a much higher standard than the pitiful two-team La Liga. He also happened to score in a Champions League final against Chelsea.

 You are the one putting words in my mouth, mate. I'm fully aware Barcelona have had the wood over us for several years and I couldn't care less at the moment. When your team is the most talented by far in the world, I'm not going to hold delusions of grandeur about who is likely to win. Ronaldo has indeed choked in the Clasico's, but apparently that means he never plays big-games

Well that's the reason Madrid are developing a core of younger players I guess, they are trying to mimic Barcelona in the sense of developing players who are of similar ages whilst they are young, just not through the youth academy or playing that style! I don't know what you think, but Di Maria, Ozil, Benzema, Higuain, Canales, and Khedira are all (or to a lesser extent) going to keep growing, some of them are already stars. More evidence with that with buying players like Sahin, but then again I can't comment on our recruitment for next year as we only have confirmed one signing!

I acknowledge all of Ronaldo's faults and I accept he is not the player Lionel Messi is. However, he is definitely the second-best player in the world at the moment and he definitely serves us well, which is all I really care about.

Good on Valencia, I like the team and even though I usually don't get time to watch La Liga anyway, I don't turn down the chance to watch them.

I never said Ronaldo isn't a great player but he has been known to go missing in big games, in the EPL, he use to murder teams like Derby County, Newcastle Utd and Everton, but he'd often underperform against the other big 4 teams. Sure he scored in the CL final against Chelsea but he also missed the penalty that could've seen Chelsea lift the trophy.
Ronaldo against middle of the table teams is almost as good as Messi, however Messi is much better in big games, this is a bloke who scored a hattrick in the Clasico, who scored 4 against Arsenal after the Gunners lead the tie in the CL last year, and single handedly tore Madrid a new one only a few weeks ago. As for Ronaldo being a midfielder, well, sure he's a midfielder by definition but he also takes every free kick, every penalty and shoots on sight

I see the merit of your point but I respectfully disagree, it seems to be a 50/50 thing when it comes to Ronaldo and big games, he chokes sometimes and blitzes teams in other times. Case in point, Sevilla is a darn good side (but not compared to Madrid, Barcelona, etc) but Ronaldo tore them apart and, like Messi, is a class above everyone else on the pitch.
To me it's a combination of ego, idiocy and yes, choking.

I don't remember posting he was a midfielder? He's definitely a forward, he could probably slot into any forward role and a few midfield roles with ease. To me he has a greater versatility for positions than Messi does, but in their respective favoured positions (both are wingers), Messi outclasses him.

Also, congratulations to Barcelona on claiming the third consecutive league title. Surely they must go down as one of the best club sides of all time?
In any case, I'm hoping for a bigger and better year from Madrid next year :) Doubtful we'd get a title, but who knows I guess.

A stat brought up on The Kennel:
4th placed Villarreal are closer to relegation than they are to being champions. 22 points clear of relegation, 30 points behind Barca, What a wonderful league indeed.

Ronaldo equals the all-time goal-scoring record in the League for a single season, with two free kick goals against Villareal.
Will he break the record?
He has also broken a record by being the first ever player in La Liga to score three or more goals on six different occasions in the league.
