La Liga

Watching Villareal v Franco's confirmed to me that the officials in La Liga are the worst across the top 5 or 6 leagues in Europe. I watch one game, sometimes 2 or 3, a week and without fail the game gets out of control and this morning one of the linesman (who continually got decisions wrong all game) was suffering roid rage and when he finally gets pushed for making the wrong call for the umpteenth time the ref only hands out a yellow card. The gulf in class is not a problem but the officiating kills the league.

 i didn't watch the match, but i'll take your word for it that he made crap decisions. You gotta admit though, that's a hilarious incident, watta WWWWANKER of a linesman, so unprofessional, basically trying to pick a fight with the players, and (i suspect) deliberately stood on his toes, provoking the push.

There was on offside early in the game and they didn't show footage until after the game when talking about that incident but he's got the flag up and you can see the vein popping out of his forehead and he's yelling and screaming, looked pretty funny tbh. I can't recall an official getting heated like that.

Well, Cristiano Ronaldo has broken the all-time La Liga scoring record for a single season with 40 goals (41 according to the Pichichi charts). Real Madrid also finished as the highest-scoring team this season, with 102 goals in the season.
Records are worthless however with no title.

ronaldo also finished with 53 goals and 15 assists for the season, what a machine, but another year and title for barcelona, bring on the 2011/12 season

but firstly bring on the Champions League final

Season's kicked off this week.

Gotta say I'm a bit mixed in terms of my outlook. On one hand, it's going to be great to see Real and Barca in particular perform week-in-week out. Will also be interesting to see how Malaga go, who have had quite a bit of player investment made by their new owners.

On the other hand however, the gap between the Big 2 and the rest is bigger than ever.

Also a bit sad that Atletico have now lost both Aguero and Forlan, the two stars from the Europa League winning side.

Results so far this round;

Sporting 1-2 R. Sociedad
Valencia 4-3 Racing
Granada 0-1 Betis
Atletico 0-0 Osasuna
Bilbao 1-1 Rayo
Mallorca 1-0 Espanyol
Getafe 1-1 Levante
Zaragoza 0-6 Real Madrid
Sevilla 2-1 Malaga

Barca playing Villareal atm and are up 2-0 at HT. Goals from Thiago and Fabregas. Nice link-up between Messi and Fabregas for the second. That's already turning into quite a combo.

This was Barca's starting XI;

Valdes; Keita, Busquets, Mascherano, Abidal; Fabregas, Iniesta, Thiago; Pedro, Messi, Alexis.

There's only one traditional defender in that bunch . Although Mascherano has kind of become a CB for them.

And it becomes 3-0 as Sanchez nets his first league goal for Barca. So both Cesc and Sanchez are now off the mark in the league.

Edit: Make that 4-0 as Messi scores. What a surprise :sarcasm:. Beautiful ball from Iniesta to put him through. Feels like I'm watching United vs Arsenal again.

Nice link-up between Thiago and Messi for Barca's 5th. Messi with a double so far.

This Thiago looks like he's quite a player. It's borderline unfair

Gotta feel for Rossi. He's been on an island today.

Watching Franco CF and Zaragoza snd Tommy Smyth was already starting on the gap.

La Liga is in big trouble and could reach higher farcical levels this season.

Sevilla are a good example of the problem with La Liga in that they lose their good players and don't have the means to replace them, Valencia and Villarreal are the same and to a leaser extent Atletico Madrid.

Only a few years Valencia nearly won the league and Barca had to qualify for UCL but wow the gap has increased amazingly since then

I don't have much interest in La Liga and the way its going it will continue to be a stricly two horse race for at least another 5 or so seasons.
I guess I support Valencia in the league but their debts forcing them to sell players is a shame.

As opposed to England? How many years have Man U won, 4 now?

Thiago is a gun, I reckon he's as good as Jack Wilshere if not better. If anyone saw him at the Euro under 21 would've seen his quality, even against guys up to 3 years older. Apparently his brother (who plays for Barca B) is just as good

The only way to go is to have a European Super League. Until then, we are going to continue to see whats currently happening. The only football that interests me anymore are Champions League or Internationals.

Okay, I forgot about the Chel$ki but 4 of the last 5 championships won by Man U and the last 7 won by Man U or Chel$ki, both leagues are as bad as each other. The relegation battles were similar aswell.

In the premier league there's normally 1 or 2 others that push Man Utd and Chelsea almost all the way. Those two teams have managed to win by the end, but the gap is certainly not as big. And I expect City to be competing right till the end this season.

Bullshit. Man U, Chel$ki and Arsenal have made up 3 of the top 4 for about 8 or 9 years.

The EPL has a gap in talent just like La Liga, the only real difference is 3rd and 4th. They had similar relegation battles and Deportivo would have been safe in the EPL with their points haul. Team like Chel$ki, City, Aston Villa, Tottenham have proven that to win or even sneak in to the top 4 or atleast attempt it you have to spend shit loads on players, a luxury that most La Liga clubs are not afforded. When was the last time a La Liga team finished with only 11 or 19 points in a season?

Money separates the teams in both leagues.
