I think teams like the dragons cutting players now,are doing the players no favours.
Most sides have spent up to the top of their cap for 2006.So it leaves little bargining power for the players who have been cut.Thats what i call reward, for a decade of slog. What happens now is a chain reaction, players now at other clubs will be cut to make room for Ennis etc.Anyway i suppose thats the rule of the jungle

this is a typical case that highlights to me, that there should be credits under the salary cap for club loyalty

I think there is a $100,000 exemption for 10 year players.

Perhaps they should take $15,000 off as exemption for every year from 5 years onwards? The only problem with that is I'd think it'd advantage the likes of Brisbane, North Queensland, the Warriors etc. who have big junior bases so the players want to stay there anyway being closer to home?

Yep! There is a $100,000 exception on the salary cap for 10 year players. Thompson is a 10 year player. The salary cap is being used as an excuse. There is more to this story. The Dragons want him out for other reasons and are using the salary cap as the easy way out.

I'm a fan of theoretical thinking. Please elaborate... and whatever you do, don't hold back on your sources.

Perhaps they are cutting eitehr Thompson or Timmins because they are the 2 most expendable players at the club??

Seems fairly obvious that if you had to dump a player in order to stay under the cap you would choose one of these 2 nothing players

Thats so bad, the way St George have handled this...
But what club would he go to? Souths have still got heaps of $$$... what other clubs would be realistically after him?
