Don't you remember Australia v Wales, yeah we won in the end, but they gave it to us.

And France has beaten Australia, NZ and England a fair few times, with the frogs having a pro team in SL now, it will start to happen again.

How many times have France or PNG beaten Australia? Or beaten England? Or beaten New Zealand?

The reasons why the other nations can't compete with those three are besides the point.

Your "point" about Dunning highlights your ignorance.

Well about France i refer you to the Vichy regime's effects. The reasons why other nations cant compete is the point! If you sent over an australian side picked entirely out of the JB Cup then maybe your desired competitiveness could be reached. The RWC had Portugal as a team FFS, they had 30 registered players... lol Malta have alot more than that in RL and they are a much smaller nation and they WONT qualify for the RLWC.

Wales scored 18 points in 8 minutes, otherwise the game was a hammering. The fact that that is a "close" game for international league just adds weight to my argument.

Have France beaten Australia in the last 30 years?

The losses by the Wallabies and the All Blacks are a fillip for the league code in this part of the world; particularly here in NZ. The spectacular form shown by the Warriors has converted many traditionalists and hopefully this will be carried on by a strong performance by the Kiwis next weekend. On top of that, the Kiwis have three tests against the Brits and one against the French to press their case as sporting team of the year. Now that would cause splutters in more than a few chardonays or lattes.

The canadians beat the Aussies in the cricket about 50 years ago too..

Mind you there are twenty teams in the union world cup as opposed to ten in the league world cup, so that's why Portugal qualified for the union world cup. I don't think twenty nations play league.

In the league world cup they have to stack Australia, England and NZ in the same pool of four so that they actually have some competitive matches.

Going into the union world cup, New Zealand were the big favourites whilst nations like Australia, South Africa, England, France, Ireland and Argentina were also reasonable chances of winning.

In the league World Cup, anyone but Australia, New Zealand or England winning is impossible. There is no way Australia would ever be knocked out in the quarter-finals of the league world cup, ever.

The last league world cup had to be postponed four years because of the lack of competitiveness at international level.

League's world cup is laughable compared to union's.

Also beaten GB in the 90's

Lost to NZ and Australia by under 10 points a few times in the last 5 years.

The standard of next years league WC will be a thousand miles ahead of the WC of 2000.

The reason - in 2000 there were maybe a few dozen Islanders playing in the NRL and ESL and about the same number of guys available for other countries.

This year you could make three teams of Samoans, two teams of Tongans, a team of Frenchmen, a team of Welsh, a team of Scotsmen, a team of PNG players etc etc etc.

Our ten team WC next season will have over 80% of players full time professionals - and the other 20% will probably have a contract by the end of the cup.

I think the top three will still be far too strong for the others - but whoever the team who comes fourth will be, they will be a fantastic side of fulltime pros - and all 7 teams will be a good chance.

I don't think i'll ever see a side from outside the top 5 in union win their WC in my lifetime - but the fact League has players from all over in the 28 fully professional teams and 100 or so semi-professional teams means i expect to see new sides emerge in League.

So they last beat Australia in 1978? Wow that really proves Rugby League is as competitive as Union on the international level.
