The basics are that the nrl is obliterating anything in Australia, and soon NZ & Pacific. AFL is an Anglo Saxon game and heavily entrenched in VIC & SA. The nrl is an inclusive sport. Islanders dominate. The odd English player has come across and shown talent. We should tap into this to allow our players to either play an extended career or transition in the same season from one to another. A further extension would be to take over French RL.
The NRL will buy the league as it’s in their best interests. This ensures we have marquee games from an international (Aus, NZ, eng, France etc) and team competition perspective (wcc, other things like Vegas). It also gives us the ability to be defined as a global brand/sport. They have no interest in spending a lot of money in the short term longer term the investment will be an amazing investment
At the moment, super league is extremely cheap. The NRL is a sleeping giant and is awakening.
At the next broadcast revenue discussion NRL will have 18 or 20 teams planned for the next 5 to 10 years. The revenue will be over 3 to $4 billion for next five years. It’s highly likely that they take that deal with the name to in-house and NBA TV type initiative after the next deal. There is no rush to do that because that is not what we’re good at.
Broadcast revenue for super league clubs would be only £2 million per club times by 12 or so. The NRL will take control under the condition that they bankroll the product and then on sell it in Australia as in as a 24-hour product. We’re already saying this on Foxtel on Saturday. I believe the NRL finished at about 10 o’clock on Foxtel and buy about 11 super league commenced till 130. They will also use the expertise in negotiating to get better deals in time.
There are lots of other side benefits such as the establishment of touch football and Oztag that will lead to higher participation across all areas and they would be looking at this as an additional benefit.
