The basics are that the nrl is obliterating anything in Australia, and soon NZ & Pacific. AFL is an Anglo Saxon game and heavily entrenched in VIC & SA. The nrl is an inclusive sport. Islanders dominate. The odd English player has come across and shown talent. We should tap into this to allow our players to either play an extended career or transition in the same season from one to another. A further extension would be to take over French RL.

The NRL will buy the league as it’s in their best interests. This ensures we have marquee games from an international (Aus, NZ, eng, France etc) and team competition perspective (wcc, other things like Vegas). It also gives us the ability to be defined as a global brand/sport. They have no interest in spending a lot of money in the short term longer term the investment will be an amazing investment

At the moment, super league is extremely cheap. The NRL is a sleeping giant and is awakening.

At the next broadcast revenue discussion NRL will have 18 or 20 teams planned for the next 5 to 10 years. The revenue will be over 3 to $4 billion for next five years. It’s highly likely that they take that deal with the name to in-house and NBA TV type initiative after the next deal. There is no rush to do that because that is not what we’re good at.

Broadcast revenue for super league clubs would be only £2 million per club times by 12 or so. The NRL will take control under the condition that they bankroll the product and then on sell it in Australia as in as a 24-hour product. We’re already saying this on Foxtel on Saturday. I believe the NRL finished at about 10 o’clock on Foxtel and buy about 11 super league commenced till 130. They will also use the expertise in negotiating to get better deals in time.

There are lots of other side benefits such as the establishment of touch football and Oztag that will lead to higher participation across all areas and they would be looking at this as an additional benefit.

NRL & superleague can be bundled together as a product with reach across Pacifica & Europe.
Having Catalans & Toulouse in the fold would mean french league is covered.

NRL has to become the global brand.

İt.would.aide the NRL in terms of positioning as a global entity. İmagine the sense of "coup" over AFL in particular announcing expansion into Europe (even if little more than rebranding).

İn the past Brisbane saw the value in investing in London, thus the Broncos and there is no reason given closer ties we won't see the increasingly cashed up NRL teams see other ventures as have value.

I think you are all totally oblivious to the sporting scene in England. Soccer dominates everything and sucks up every pound of tv and sponsorship money. NRL cant even tackle AFL across Australia, you think its going to take on the EPL? lol

NRL could put teams in every capital but doesn't because it'd be a waste of money.

NRL isn't taking on epl. It'll be consolidating league fanbase, spreading brand global & finding media partners who want product bigger than Aussie domestic market.

Not mutually exclusive
Nope but of we are just talking about sorting out English RL we already have a partner with the skills to do that. How it pans out at end of year withthe gradings and clubs response is goign to be very interesting to see.

Simpel fact is NRL will struggle to grow English RL as the sports scen is dominated there by football. Just as they have struggled to make any real inroads in AFL cities in Australia,. They doint have a great track record

Pretty certain state of origin is the only national football competition looking at ratings, but anyway.. IMG probably behind offer.

PR - No one said we’re taking on soccer. Not at all the point. In England we just need to instill a success & performance culture and that will improve the league. AFL is basically big in vic, sa and wa. - there is no competition from the nrl really in those states other than storm.

The uplift is enough to ensure that we have an international competition that is improving and have another area that can fill the nrl with talented athletes - there are plenty of examples of England born superstars who would be able to play at nrl level. We don’t want that competition to be losing whatever from its current position.

That is far from taking on soccer.

No inroads? Are you mad. Storm.
When the nrl is flush with cash - what do you think they’ll do PR?

afl can’t touch us in nsw or qld

we are not in wa or sa - that’s the reason we’re not making inroads. Once we put teams there we will get national coverage and we will have a larger following nationally than the afl can ever dream of

the nrl is a sleeping giant. We’re waking up, afl is nothing product wise compared to nrl. A bunch of men jumping for a ball, with short shorts? They can’t even tackle properly.

the nrl has been mismanaged for 50 years.

Any word to the NRL seriously contemplating putting in an offer? There’s 20 pages of comments here and a bit of it is months old
