Sandow only has five...Is this a worrying sign or not realy?

It's not a good sign, but his job at Souths is to get early ball to Sutton or go himself. He never really has any support runners because they're all hanging out over on the left. I'd say most if not all of Sandow's LBAs were to Dylan Farrell, who's not really part of the gameplan.

Anyway, Sandow's coming here for his kicking and running game, and both are top notch. He'll get plenty of LBAs when he's not having to watch Sutton, Taylor and Inglis run riot on the other side of the field.

honestly....i'm not trying to stir the pot....but surely people can see that if Hayne has his hands on the ball more closer to the action, good things will happen for this team.....?

I think you'll find he got most of those LBAs playing fullback - getting wider, attacking both sides of the field. Most of his LBAs were long passes to an unmarked winger, not Thurston-style short balls.

The main reason he has so many LBAs is because of the way he's been used at fullback, and the fact that when he receives early ball a couple of passes wide, defenders converge on him. Pretty easy to find an unmarked winger when the two defenders on his outside are watching Hayne.

What we want is him going back to hitting short passes right across the middle third. Sandow and Roberts will help with that.

And inside the 20 we can spread the defence with Hayne setting up in a wide position where he can either run or pass.

I don't see why he needs to be in the 6 jersey to do any of this.

Anyway it's not up to us; it's up to the coach. If Kearney wants him to wear 6 next year I'll be all for it.

I agree with poupou.I can only see Hayne at 5/8 more restricting on his game.
At fullback he can play a more free game which i personaly think suits his style more.Nit sure if he has the mental nut to control a game at this stage of his career...
We could be trying to turn him into a player he isnt?

He doesn't really fit any role then. Five eight restricts his playing style yet in fullback he has some issues with defense and his support play is inferior to Burts.

He fits both of them. He's just better at fullback right now.

Five eight restricts his playing style yet in fullback he has some issues with defense

He has no issues with his defence other than always trying to make the big play on both sides of the ball.

He's got a natural footballing brain, speed, strength, footwork and aggression. Why would he be a bad defender anywhere on the field?

The 'positional play' bullshit is just that - bullshit. It's something haters made up because it can't be disproved.

and his support play is inferior to Burts.

That's like saying he shouldn't play in the halves because his kicking game isn't as good as Soward's.

Poupou, you must admit that his short kicking game has really become an asset since he has played 6. We are now getting lots of repeat sixes.

Secondly, he is practicing his short passing game and over time it should get better when the support players start reading his thoughts.

He can still implement his kicking game any time he likes playing fullback in attack. He doesn't have to drop back in attack, only in defence so he can still be the last play option even at fullback. I'm undecided whether he's better off at fullback or 5'8th next season but it doesn't matter what I think it's the coach's decision. But just having him being able to play anywhere in the backline is a great advantage.

Totally agree.

But like Eels Dude said, he can do all that from fullback.

Also, why should he have to develop his short passing game when he already has such a great running game he can better use at fullback?
