Yeah but when it mattered he stuffed up what would have been a match winning play. Don’t get may chances vs the chooks in a GF. Latrell with the same chance iced the game.
It’s pretty narrow minded to judge a player’s performance on one play. BJ was very good in the GF, he was amongst the best on field.

Not really but it is good roster management when you have a player who is superior and likely to occupy his position in first grade.

Now if Aitken and Lafai were dropped to CC early in 2019 and told that they are no longer needed in first grade, you can bet their managers would have them seeking a release from the Dragons thus freeing up some cap space to buy first grade centres. As it is we have two duds centres in first grade and have recruited two centres of unknown quality to back them up. In fact we probably have just recruited a couple of ordinary centres who will be road blocks to our juniors.

We could have had two first grade centres with a couple of potentially great juniors bacing them up.
I have Raiders mates that are absolutely spewing that Raiders would pay 400K this year for BJ to play for Tigers. That was before Curtis Scott was tasered and arrested by police this morning.

I wonder what @possm says about Mulholland now. Did they not do due diligence re Scott before letting BJ go as Scott is also known as a loose cannon and paying 400K of BJ's money to play at Tigers.
Melb had him in reserve grade for a while and let him go for a reason.
If that was Millward Poss would be hitting the roof.

I see your point but to be fair Williame probably cost about $150K, BJ 700K
I’d probably cost minimum contract value.

Doesn’t mean I’m good value though..*

BJ would have been a great pickup for his price with the raiders paying so much of the contract.. But I still have issues with his past, so I don’t mind that we missed him..

*probably better value than maranta though..

I am spewing that Canberra aren't paying 400K this year for BJ to play for us.

Scott, Mitchell and Leilua are 3 centres we could not sign mainly because the salary cap has not been managed well at all.

Scott, well we dodged a bullet there. Aren't the Storm lucky that he moved on.

Mitchell, well it is reported that he signed for a sum that is less than the combined salaries of Aitken and Lafai. Seems that if the Roosters don't get their man, Souths will.

Leilua, all I can say is what a shame. I was hoping to have both brothers at the Dragons.

Nothing will change until the Board wakes up and sees the damage being done to our club.

Im not purely judging him on that alone, but lets be honest no was rushing out trying to sign Leilua even though he was being shopped around months ago. It is also narrow minded for us general fans to think we know more about NRL than a first grade professional coach.

You literally said that he “flopped in the grand final”. What else were you referring to?

Tigers have literally pursued him so hard that they have managed to get him out of the final year of his Raiders contract.

Shall we shut down the forum?

BJ would have cost about the same with Raiders paying most of his contract.
Raiders are paying 400K this year yes but he is still a way more expensive buy over a 3 year contract than Williame.
But yes, I agree, the Williame signing is nothing to get excited about.

Tigers have only just started chasing him now that the missed Mitchell. They like us are struggling for recruits. Who else was chasing him? He did flop in 2010, and last year he missed a chance to win the game. Obviously this was only one moment but that is a centres bread and butter. Should the forum be shut down? No it’s fine to discuss our team and be armchair coaches from time to time but it’s also worth acknowledging that first grade coaches including Mary know more about NRL than anyone on this forum. If the Tigers are the only club chasing and the Raiders are willing to pay for him to leave what more needs to be said?

He wasn’t even available. He broke a contract to move. Had he been off contract I’m sure there would have been more interest.

Agreed that he was terrible in 2010. But come on. He was an absolute rookie who was playing against Gasnier and Nighty at their peak.

At the end of the day I’m not even sure I would want to recruit him, but I think you’re being incredibly unfair. BJ is an enigmatic player, which is important to a squad. You can’t have too many, and they need to get a good feel for the team, but they are important. One of the reasons we have struggled these past few years is that we have lacked a player of his style; someone that creates in an unpredictable way.

One of the reasons that Canberra got as far as they did last year was off the back of BJ’s work. They focused their game around their 9, had a 6 whose first option is to run, and had a running fullback. Their half was a kickbot, so the only real creativity down the right came from BJ and Bateman.

And I still don’t get your argument about NRL coaches knowing more than the punters. I mean, of course you’re probably right, but does that mean that I get to invoke McGuire agreeing with me to validate my argument?

First grade professional coach......wish we had one
Flanagan with Shephard as his assistant will do me; it is a GF winning combination. All we need is for our new CEO to approach the NRL and lobby to shorten Flanagan's sentence. If this does not happen we will likely be stuck with Dean Young and Flanagan/Shephard departing at season's end.

If we have a good season because of Flannos influence, fester will take the credit, you can see it in his bs he's been talking. He's best friends with the owners. Money holds the power......I hope I'm wrong and they do install Flanagan and Shepherd though
