What a silly concept.

If I didn’t spend time and effort on my own posts, I’d just be posting up the first random thing that pops into my head, that would probably have no relevance to anyone.

That’s what Twitter is for.

Imagine the time you could spend on your own posts if you didn’t concentrate on mine. No one else within this forum seems to reply to my posts with such relish and regularity.

As for Twitter, I’ve never understood the need for it provided one is on Facebook.

Too much hubris and self postulating for my liking.

Tony Smith has to be in this team. Only player I’ve ever known to draw boos from the crowd when his brother Brian would enevitably have him replace someone usually in the second half.
What about the fact that we let Peter Coyne go for Tony Smith. Coyne's brother was starting to find his feet and looked like a decent 5/8th. All Tony Smith could do was kick.

Agreed. Although not blessed with speed, Peter Coyne was quick between the ears, and was vastly underrated.

I’m surprised Bennett never attempted to get him.

He was a much better defender than Tony Smith too..I remember him barrelling Laurie Daley into touch to save a try.

I don't think Peter and Mark got on too well.

Just on the union theme Trevor Lake came to us after representing South Africa and showed a lot of promise but had a really bad injury that stopped his career dead in its tracks.
I remember seeing him score a blistering try at the SCG.
Of course George Evans and Kevin Ryan also made the most of it after coming over from union.
I was also there, heaps of ability,

Brother Brian preferred to play Tony in front of a young star Andrew Walker!

This thread is a bit harsh really as they all did make it to 1st grade, no easy task in itself
I remember when people said Stan Gorton was shit but he scored 22 tries one year to head the try scorers for the season.
Stanley sure could scoot along after doing his shimmy shimmy shake before he decided to just run.
Loved Stanley.

Mark Blackburn from Penrith was a tough front rower, went well, don't remember what happened to him.
Brian Norton from Norths was another good forward.

From memory, Blackburn got himself into hot water in the late 80s. After being replaced in a game, he allegedly tore his jumper to shreds and was never seen again.

Why would you say that?
The team were doing a fan meet and greet before the '93 grand final at Westfields Hurstville when I said something to Mark about Peter not being there and he stayed quiet. It was what Gordon Tallis said that made me think the two didn"t get on.

How can anyone forget the inadequate quartet of Hassan Saleh, Chis Nero, John Wiltshire and Damien Bower?
I agree and he would have gone much better in a better team.
We were pretty ordinary in those days with no real stand outs.
Peter Gill even made the Dream Team when he played in the UK for a few years
Looking at the years he played for us, a tough gig with the Dragons finishing most seasons with around 8 to 9 wins only
From 1985 making the GF and having a great team....to 1986 -1991 having a poor team, we sure do know how to go from good to bad, 1986 to 1991 was as bad, if not worse than 2012-2017

No doubt our club has had some lean periods and devoid of high quality game turning players but IMO despite their limitations they always put in and left it on the paddock.
The most embarrassing moments for me have been during the recent regimes time with records created at KJO that the old club and the fans only could have had nightmares about.
Highest losing scores, losing to 0 and not being able to get up for crucial games, so whilst this thread may talk about worst teams at least they all had a passion and put their bodies on the line and that is not always the case now.
Re Peter Gill he often reminded me of the economy version of Rocket Reddy and Peter often looked as exhausted and banged up as Rocket and Changa did at the end of any game they played a whole hearted performer.

I’d argue the period 2012-2017 is far wise. At least at the end of the first “era”, there was a sense of optimism because a new coach had only been appointed in ‘91.

With McGregor in charge, there’s no light at the end of the tunnel.
