Wrong! But because their owners are so rich, they don't care about running at a loss.
Absolute rubbish.

We run at a massive profit. £110m over the last financial year in terms of pure operating costs. The only thing holding us back is the huge debt that the Glazers took on board to take us over, as they didn't have the money to do it themselves. Paying that debt off that was inflicted on us (ie. completely different than most clubs debt that was made up of living beyond their means) is the only thing stopping us being easily the strongest club in the world financially. We have to spend something like £50m a year just paying the interest on that debt. I believe we also paid about £40m extra this year to get it down a bit. We've also had about £110m just sitting in the bank for the last few years for if Fergie wants to spend it, steadily increasing a little each year. We spent about £45m I think this transfer window, which is the most we've ever done.

We did look like we may be in trouble for the first few years after they took us over. But to be fair to the Glazers, they and David Gill (our chief executive) have increased our revenue so much and refinanced the debt to make it easier to handle, that the light is now starting to show at the end of the tunnel. Ferguson is a huge reason for that as well, keeping the team at the top on the field.

There is strong talk the Glazers are going to float about 25% of their stake on the Singaporean stock market. If they do that and then use that money to pay off the debt, we're laughing all the way to the bank (pun intended). Everything after that would be pure profit, far more than any other club in the world.

I believe Liverpool have a similar set-up, albeit their figures (both debt and revenue) are nowhere near as high.

If you're in debt, you're in debt. Doesn't matter how big your revenues are.

True. But we're not running at a loss. Because of refinancing fees and a couple of technical fees that aren't actually there in the real world (including one that is included on our books every year but in reality was paid by the Glazers when they first took over), last year we supposedly made a slight loss, but in reality we made a slight profit. And this year the profit was quite a bit more.

I think that was just one of many false rumours spread in the last days of the window:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/aug/31/liverpool-joe-cole-craig-bellamy

What I've heard is that Arsenal, Lille and Hazard himself had agreed on both a fee and wages and the only reason it didn't go ahead is because Lille didn't have time to find a replacement. It's tipped to be one of the first deals to happen in the next window...as long as we can stay in contention for top 4, he's not going to come if we don't look like playing Champions league next season.

I guess its just what news rag you choose to believe. We'll just have to wait till the next transfer window to see what happens. I've seen reports that Arsenal will pay 28 mil which is little overpriced for a young player who isn't proven in the premier league.

You said running at a loss, nothing about debt?

Also if you have a 100,000 mortgage to pay, i think it matters what you earn when it comes to paying it back. If you have to pay more than you get in, your stuffed. If you can afford it and continue to invest in other things than you are going good.

If you can float a quater of your house on the stock market to pay your mortgage your laughing.

If you increase ticket prices and keep an Automatic Cup Scheme meaning hard up people have to pay out big bucks for Carling cup games despite the profit your a tw*t.

Ahem anyways.

You left it to late for Hazard, Lille wouldn't of been able to replace hm. Still if you can get him then he will replace that Nasri sized hole in your squad. Problem is other teams know he available now and its amazing how many players dreams get changed for a shed load of cash.

Hazard is the real deal, I've been following him for 2 years. IMO he is the best player under 21 on the planet.

Wenger is a famous tightarse when it comes to spending on transfer fees, so you know what caliber of player it takes to make him part with 28 mil.

Well...

We won.
Noone got injured.
Noone got a red card.

I'm pretty sure that's a 1st on all 3 counts. Also, another top 4 contender lost so all in all a good day at the office and I can finally get some sleep after a tiring day of watching 4 different sports.

Good result, but still its at home vs. Swansea, terrible performance.

Ramsey, Ive never been a huge fan and I feel im on his case too often, but geeez Wenger is giving him opportunity and he is continually disappointing. Offer nothing in attack and gives the ball away waaaay to easily. Watach him play next to Arteta is like watching night and day. He was so terrible in midfield it looked like Wegner pushed him up into a more attacking position and still nothing. Im done with him.

Walcott? I know how much speed and how exciting the guy is, but he still has the first touch of Bendtner and his crossing is terrible. Simply for all the hype, he is not very good. Hopefully Park gets some minutes in the near future.

Per didnt have much to do, but its great to have an aerial presnece.

Arteta looked very classy and his experience in the prem league showed, despite not having the final touch.

Woj is a muthaf**kin beast, respect.

Szc~ is one of the top 3 keepers in the league. And at just 20. He has the ability to be the best keeper on the planet when he hits his peak.

Bit concerning but happy with the three points. We should be dominating teams like Swansea, especially at home, and getting only a 1-0 result really concerns me. We best start improving otherwise it will be struggle street when we come up against a top side.

We need to play Walcott up front, his runs and speed will be much more effective and have RVP play just behind him. We will be so much better.

This week hopefully we show some people on here how good the bundesliga really is by beating Dortmund convincingly, then what should be an easy 3 points against bottom of the table Blackburn.

Who knows, by the end of the week we may be within a win of being back in the top 4. STOKE is currently there ffs.

With Ramsey and Rosicky both out, I'm expecting Benayoun to start. Gervinho is finally eligible again too.

Dissapointing not to come away with the 3 points after the position we were in, but I saw nothing to make me think we won't win the group.
