‘NRL never does anything to promote the game’.

NRL staging a new concept here in 2019.

‘It’s sh*t, it won’t work, only some clubs will benefit. Can’t the NRL do anything right?’

There’s just no pleasing some people. I guess whinging is free so some like to take a few extra helpings.

First off I’m keen to go on whatever day the warriors are playing plus maybe another day.
Also I’m pretty sure at least one team will take a home game against us to nz so there will still be 12 games in nz.

I was under the impression the brisbane double header was not happening in 2019?
It's not anymore because of the magic weekend.
What's wrong with the NRL running its comp how it wants? NRL needs to force club's hand to make things happen, so be it.
Cause it's not just their comp, they aren't doing it for the right reasons (they're doing it as political olive branch to the QLD government cause they f**ked up the stadium and grand final hosting rights negotiations so badly), and the way they are going about it unnecessarily detrimental to some of the clubs .

Firstly this isn't promoting "the game" or their competition...

Secondly thanks for trying to pin an opinion onto me that I don't necessarily hold...

Whose comp is it then?

Keeping the government of one of your 2 major strongholds happy is smart business.

So if this isn’t promoting the game then what is it doing?

NB. My post was not aimed at anyone specifically. Just a general observation of those who find fault with something even before it has happened. Whether that is you or not isn’t for me to say.

This attitude also seems to filter into clubs and is why rugby league outside of its tv deal has so many amateur aspects.

Roosters hosting raiders on magic weekend

Then a 5 day turnaround and they play broncos there Friday night
5 day turnaround on no travel is fine (presuming they stay in Brisbane).

They only have 2 all year, in line with most teams

I hope this magic weekend fixture is a success, is persisted with and then becomes a property that cities bid for. I really want it used in cities like Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Auckland to further promote RL.

In the case of Mel, Ade & Per we could hold it in round 1 before the AFL season starts. Imagine the unprecidented coverage of the game in those cities when the entire comp comes to town for a weekend. I'd even be happy if they did something like sell the fixture to Melbourne for 10 years and let them take ownership of it. It would go a long way to making Melbournites feel like they have a little ownership over the game.

I like the idea, but I think the Thursday game is a bad call - all days should have had multiple games - and the fact that the Broncos get it as an away game is just plain wrong.

My Roosters following mates and I are looking at a lads weekend away for it though. So mission accomplished at creating an event though.

If anything, it's going to prove (one way or another) if Brisbane is the home of rugby league as the QLDers like to say....

Every doubler header at Suncorp has seen Manly agree to take a home game up there.

How many times does this need to be pointed out?

It's probably better that Brisbane is an away team. It'd cause dramas for season ticket holders otherwise.

I'd support this concept more if it was played on Saturday and Sunday.
