Hope it rains all weekend.
Would be great to see teams battling it out in the mud, instead of manicured lawns.

I'm very happy my lot are playing first game.

I think the field will be pretty messed up come late Saturday/early Sunday but a bit of rain and it'll be chomped up like it had an alleged hookup with an ex-NRL/NFL star.

I actually agree for the most part. But we have what we have so why not will it to have the best result instead of incessantly talking the game down?

We certainly shouldn't be hoping for failure but a shit decision does deserve a shit outcome.

LOLOLOL

Melbourne (or anywhere) Round 1? Yeah, take home games away from fans that have been starved of footy for 5 months at the first opportunity in an effort to boost crowds in what's already among the best-attended rounds each season.

Adelaide, Perth? Perth didn't fill a double header this year, Adelaide gets 15-20k to games at the moment. No.

Auckland might be a goer but Brisbane is fine for a first go. It won't be there permanently.

How many new RL fans will this bring in? Look at Fri night 52k capacity. Broncos fans will have say 35k. Only takes the other 3 teams to bring 5k each and the place is full.

No new fans though. Shouldn't the point of these things be to bring new fans in? It is just a money grab really

An extra week won't hurt. You are saying if your team plays away round 1 then interest is lower?

It’s a pants concept for Australia, double headers for expansion cities are far better options. Rather than this magic weekend we could have had 4 double headers which would have been far more strategically beneficial to the game.

That is the way I see it too. Much better ways to do such a thing that actually benefits the game

For me a good result is lukewarm interest and they open tender to host it from 2020

If it gets lukewarm interest is it worth persisting with? If its not very successful in QLD where would it be? Unless success is measured by how much they sold it for, but that won't last if its a dud event.

QLD is RL town. Friday night the Broncs get 35k normally. No reason this will be any less. If not many tourists come have the govt wasted their money? Or the surface if that is stuffed maybe they move the Sunday games for 2020. To say Auckland much better

That's opinion though, not fact.

Bringing in new fans isn't the only point of these things. As much as I dislike Queensland, they get a fraction of the footy NSW does, so if this gets more bums on seats up there good on them. Per capita Brisbane are massively underperforming crowd wise anyway.

That's ludicrous.

Surely a good result is four full houses?

And this will fix that how?

Broncos will still have a the whole city to themselves. GC will still have the crazy ground charges for Skilled fixing both those things will do more for the game then a whole round of footy up there will.

Just went into the Ticketek office to check on availability as we were keen to get tickets in 301 or 302, all diamond sections were showing limited availability with most sections having only 2 seats together available. We have ended up in 601 which was the only area that had 5 seats together in Diamond.
I have no idea how this all works, we have been checking on tickets every day for the last week and the only bays that ever came up were 320 or 323, when we checked at the ticketek office last week all the other bays hadn't been opened. Based on what I saw at the Ticketek office today Diamond class looks almost gone.

Hopefully the NRL put together a good show around the stadium and up around caxton street. I've just been to three days of Supercars and in addition to the sport they put on one hell of a show just with the numerous other things around to look at and do.

I think it could be good in Newcastle.

We could have the double headers and this. Lets give this a go.

Couldn't risk missing good tickets. Three 3 day passes in S.601 ($300 each) and two tickets for Thursday in S.340 ($35 each).

Because sht decisions need to be called out, not just passively accepted. MAybe if we knew why the NRL decided to do this (maybe it means better stadium deals in Qland?) As for will it to have the best result, I'll probably spend a couple of thousand going along to it, is that good enough for you?

First up, shit isn't in the word filter anymore so lol @ trying to avoid the filter but mispelling it...

On what basis is it a shit decision? It hasn't happened yet, it's still 6 months away - how can you already be so certain of its failure to call it a shit decision?

As for why the NRL decided to do it, it's fairly clear. The event has had considerable success over 5+ years in the UK, and the QLD Govt were keen.

Yes, but the Magic weekend decision is a great decision. Probably the best decision the NRL has made in 5 years.

The problem with double headers is the NRL cannot promote them because not all the clubs are involved. With this MW the NRL can promote the heck out of it (like State of Origin level promotion) if they want.

Bit like the friday 6pm game which if I recall at the time you were saying we couldn't call a shit decision as they hadn't happened, guess what, they are shit!
It's a message board full of opinion, barring an incredulous result it has come at the expense of double headers which have evidenced success so on that basis alone, unless it is an outstanding success with 35-50k crowds each of the 3 days then it is a shit decision. But yet lets wait to confirm it lol

As for it works in England, so does the Challenge Cup are you suggesting we should introduce that as well? How keen where the Qland Govt, what benefits have the NRL got out of this?

The opening DH in Perth last year was an NRL event T-Boon that clubs got financial benefit from being part of. NRL controlled the marketing, ticketing and Govt negotiations. Was a great success.
