Manly, Penrith throw big money at Todd Carney (& NOW DOGS AS WELL)

I think maybe 1 or 2 who started would normally be in the run on side, so not very many.

Honestly as much as I'd love a guy like Carney at Penrith I'd rather him stay with Canberra. He's a Canberra junior and they've developed him (and continue to develop him) and have stuck by him through some tough times. Hopefully he rewards their loyalty.

Must say im surprised by the penrith and manly fan's response, it's encourging to know they respect the time and money put into todd carney and would prefer to see him stay at canberra and for us to reap the rewards of his development.

Well in lads

i think everyone can see how much canberra have bent over backwards for this kid.. and it is not in the spirit of the game (is there even such a thing anymore?) for carney to just abandon you blokes for a few quicker dollars. at the very least it would show the bloke has absolutely no backbone or integrity whatsoever... which would be a shame on multiple levels. personally i prefer someone with a little bit of fortitude to be wearing my NSW Blues #7 jersey come origin time... and there's not much doubt that he'll get a crack at it one way or another.

if he leaves canberra i reckon i'd boo the bloke in a NSW jersey.

I just think how I would feel if Manly was in Canberra's position, and I also do not dislike Canberra.

Did the Cowboys actually have any uninjured forwards by that stage?
Yeah like 3 or 4:lol:

Carney, though potentially a superstar is going to be showing his true colours here if he leaves Canberra and takes money over loyalty.

I understand that players at Canberra tend to get a bit of a raw deal in terms of representation but if he really is as good as some fans say,he will show it regardless.

But the question Christmas ape, is how much do you pay for potential?
At this stage TC is only that, if he lives up to the hype he'll be worth 400k and more, but considering he is only potential and wayward potential at that, how much is he really worth now...

i guess the answer to that is what ever a club is willing to pay for him...

Hypothetically, if our club was after a 1/2 back, I'd be spewing if they forked out more than 250k a year for him.

just a question........
Say you worked for "company A", they had trained you in your field, stuck by you etc and then "company B" comes along and offers you alot more $$$, would you honestly stay with company A?
There is no loyalty in sport these days (bar a few i.e beaver), theres big $$$ involved, it might not be the ideal situation but when push comes to shove, i know what id choose, id rather set myself up for life and have enough so ive set my kids up for life.

If you are going to win the big one you need a no7 with the skills of a player like Carney so I cant see why he isnt worth 350 plus a season. He is only going to get better. Like most people I hope he stays put with the green machine, but if he was to move would love to see him down the road at the tigers, but that will not happen

when you are in the media spotlight every week and you have thousands of fans on your shoulders you would think long and hard about it. If Carney switches to manly for that money he will very quickly become one of the most unpopular players in the comp. If I was a manly player, say anthony watmough for instance and I just played my first origin, i'm coming off my best ever season and then I hear some punk kid who hasn't proved anything is coming to my team for 400k a year I would be a little bit pissed off.

Carney is going to be under a lot of pressure going to Manly. He would develop into a better player at canberra i reckon.

Mate Carney could make Stewart look like an out and out star, and in return with Stewarts speed and footwork, he wouldnt let carneys good work go to waste either... i can certainly understand why manly are chasing him

Orford isnt a halves arsehole when it comes to the crunch.

I don't think NSW and Australian fullback Brett Stewart needs the help of Todd Carney thank-very-much ... get your hand off it  They hype overkill from Canberra fans on Todd Carney is hillarious. A good player yes, though good young halfbacks come and go. Let's see where he is in five years time.

Todd Carney will go to the highest bidder - I don't think "loyalty" to the club that saved his career will be seriously entertained.

tell that to the clubs offering him 400k a year. most canberra fans dont think he is worth that much.

Touche'

I will cop that on the chin.

Brett Stewart is the one likely to make Carney look better, not vice versa.

i disagree
Stewart is a fine finisher, but he needs someone to create the oppertunity for him... a player like stewart needs a player like carney, not vice versa

Wrong. Could rattle off a solid list of tries he's set up for himself. The try against Parra at Brookie is a prime example.

There is no doubt Carney would help Stewart make more breaks and score even more tries, however he is also capable of creating opportunities for himself.

He can also create opportunities for others, he is getting better every year and I would not be shocked if he could develop into quite a class 5/8 in a few years, he seems to have the skills. However I would not be moving him anytime soon.
