Another mural. This time in Townsville...
Mural leaves lasting rugby league legacy
Date published: 29 September 2017
A new mural by a Townsville artist will be a lasting memento of the Rugby League World Cup 2017 games to be played in the city in October and November.
Townsville will host Fiji, USA, Italy and Wales on October 28 and November 5 at 1300SMILES Stadium.
Street Art Activation Working Group member and Rugby League World Cup Ambassador Cr Russ Cook said the mural by Kennie Deaner in Gregory St celebrated the game of rugby league.
“Kennie is a local artist and has previously been commissioned to paint a mural for council in Denham Lane,” Cr Cook said.
“We’re excited to have him on board with this new project which will celebrate the game and Townsville as a host city.
“We know Townsville people love their rugby league so we’re sure this new mural will be well received.”
The mural features a player mid stride and the flags of participating countries.
Townsville is one of 13 cities across Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea hosting the Rugby League World Cup 2017.
