thread for discussing how the marketing and promotion is going.

Started with a bang with the launch and good website. Venues and tickets out nice and early. Love the logo.

Good to see the RLWC being promoted at very nrl game with in goal adverts.

Their Social Media accounts are pretty active too. The trophy has been doing a good tour of venues lately. I wonder if they are playing advertisements before the games at the grounds that will host matches?

The ingoal adverts are good way to promote the WC.

And I have enjoyed the country previews published in Facebook and Twitter. Well written and good insight in to rugby league in some of the lesser nations.

Unless there is a strategy that i am obviously unaware of I think they need to start ramping things up a bit. Footy fans I speak to are non committed / not interested in the event at THIS point in time.

This may be partly because I am Brisbane based and no pool games are here (or elsewhere in SEQ) - Semi and Final only games to get to locally.....and so chances are you'll see the usual 'big three' and only one other team. SEQ people are wanting to see alternate teams and unlike 2013 ....most games are not within an hour or so by train.

For me I'd like to see the RLWC organisers .....

* Get some players faces on TV talking about the upcoming event (Poms, Celtics, Kiwis, Kumuls, Islanders, etc.)
* Get same out to schools; clubs; footy carnivals; community events etc
* Have one or more of the RL shows have a RLWC moments / memories section ( if even for a minute or two)
* Have one or more of the Oz based RL mags do the same
* Have adverts placed in local papers where games are being placed ( or the nearby vicinity)

Timing of the comp is out of the organisers control .......but a December 2nd final is going to be a hard sell in my opinion.

Truly want this event to succeed .....but some spadework is definitely needed to see this happen.

State of Origin had its media launch today, got lots of coverage. Made me think of this very topic. The social media accounts of the RLWC are very active, the Trophy seems to be at a NRL Match every week.

Im very worried about initial ticket sales however.

Didn't RLWC 2008 and 2013 sell out the Finals well in advance? At this stage Brisbane only has the lower bowl open :/

Yeah I doubt we'll see much til after the May tests and Origin.

I need to start organising the time off work before I can buy any tickets

No one gives a f**k. They have to hope that after the grand final a few people start to, if only for the lack of other footy.

Of course Sydney people will then realise there's only two games to choose from and Brisbane people will have to wait til the end of the tournament to see a game so that's your two biggest markets. You'd think it was Cairns, but no.

Last world cup was a success . Not sure why this one won't be the same or even better.

Be great for the promoters if tickets are still available and we end up with a England v Australia final. Brisbane has not a Poms v Roos game since 2006 so i dare say that would be more of a drawcard than a Kiwis v Roos game.

Of course if a Poms v Kiwis final was able to eventuate than I'd say they would need to push the 'be here for RLWC history' line as it would be a first since 1954 that Australia had not featured in the final (from memory !)

Be great for the code too !

I am hoping for an England vs not-Australia final. Bonus points if England beat Aus on the way

Perhaps should have gone with Rugby League classic, Chumbawamba's Tubthumping. Perfect for England

I'd have thought something more appropriate like, I don't know....

  • The winner takes it all by ABBA
  • When will be I loved by Linda Rhondstat (?)
  • Aint no second prize by Jimmy Barnes
  • You win again by the Bee Gees
  • Playing to win by John Farnham
  • Never Ending Story by Jamahl (?)
  • One Step Beyond by Madness

:p

Should be "You can't touch this" M.C.Hammer
or "Everybody wants to rule the world".Tears for Fears.
" Beat It" Michael Jackson.
"Tusk" Fleetwood Mac"
"You really got me' The Kinks
Still like "Eye of the tiger" Survivor.
BTW nice large RLWC advert hanging over Southern Cross Drive going into the city last Wednesday.
